KLM A380 Order?

Tue Nov 02, 2004 10:45 am

I heard a rumor on another forum that KLM had ordered the A380. There was no link to a story so I am wondering if there is any truth behind the story. Would KLM even need the A380?

The supposed order was for 9 aircraft.

Haven't heard anything about that. If it is a rumor I would say it is just that, a rumor. Are you sure you didn't mistake it with their A330 order? Hope that helps!  Big thumbs up

I know I didn't mistake it however the poster may have. Any A380 orders for KLM would most likley come under Air France's exitsing order?

I can see that it could be useful for some services, but 9 sounds like a lot of aircraft.

Also with AMS at 5? runways, I would doubt that Slots are going to be a major issue.

No order. But somewhere on the net (I believe a.net actually) someone was quoting from KLMs internal magazine "de wolkenridder" that in the far future A380s where likely to be used for Asian routes. But I do not have access to "de wolkenridder" so can not confirm if that's true.

All I ever saw was a A330 talk or a joint order with NW on the 7e7. Although I must say seeing KL paint scheme oin the A380 would be very nice looking.

AF-KLM is the same airline now...so in a way, KL will get some A380's !!!

AF has 10 firm orders + 4 Options... when the a/c will be delivered, it will be very possible to base some of them at AMS to operate some important routes.

The A332 that KL will receive soon will finally be configured excately as AF's A332 to offer the maximum of flexibility and they will be used either from AMS or From CDG.

You can bet it will be the same for the A380 and all the future a/c that will be ordered by AFKL

I'm sure if KLM wanted an A380 it'd have to be a combi, like the 744s!

No A380 orders or immediate plans

BTW KLm & AF are not one airline, but 2 airlines in one holding group.

We cooperate with AF in win win situations, thats all for now

Yeah i was the one who said that, i have access to it Big grin, but they clearly stated that the future of KLM will exist of medium-haul planes like the A330 for all the tin routes and big planes as well as the A380 for Asian routes.

I think that if AF didn't have any influence in KLM that they would stick with Boeing. Other than their A310's where were gotten rid of during 89-90ish they have been a very loyal Boeing operator. I don't think that jumping the gun like that would help. I can see some of the older 737's (non-NG) being phased out for A32s. But then again some if not most of their 737's (-300's) are younger than their 744's....

Thanks again.

Keesje,

AFKL IS one Airline... operating two different brands (for the moment) from two different bases, AMS & CDG.

You would be surprised to see how everything is changing so fast in the organisation of AFKL !

From now to the end of 2005, 25 offices downtown will have merged completely, 27 offices in Airports, 36 agencies in Airport, 9 Agencies downtown, 32 common Lounges in Airports ...

The 2 FFP will merge completely in 2005 to form only one single new FFP.

AFKL serves 106 destinations on the Haul-Long network : ONLY 36 remained served by both AF & KL. 47 are served by AF only, 23 are by KLM only.
Slow by slow, there will be only 1 Station Manager in each city served, THR and KWI should the first ones ...

More changes should be announced for the next summer season...

well don't think they will jump on the A320. a hand full of 737-300's and 400's are already been replaced with 737-800's and 900's and F-100's (wich routes will be replaced by an ex-malev plane ,starting this week. recently the 5th 900 came in and replaced a 737-300....

FLYSSC, the same kind of deals were made with NWA along time ago, still we are not one airline.

UA777222,

Don't forget that KLM ordered the A330-200 quite a while before AF came into the picture...

Keesje,

ur wrong. AF has the majority of shares of KLM. KLM is not a separate airline anymore. They're nothing more than a brand in the Groupe Air France.

The deal with NW was unique in the period it started, early 90s. A strategic partnership on the North-Atlantic service, which in the end turned out pretty successfull for both airlines.

Just because Air France owns KLM does not make them one airline. If they are held in a holding company they are separate units with common ownership.

For example my holdings company used to own two separte businesses doing similar things. They were separate businesses with common ownership.

Well KEESJE, that's not what I would call the same kind of deal : Does KL owns 100% of NW ? or Does NW owns 100% of KL ???  Wow!

KLM was BOUGHT by Air France. The two airlines were MERGED into one new airline called Air France-KLM who keeps operating two different brands AF from CDG and KLM from AMS.

That's the deal, and that has nothing to do with the KLM/NWA cooperation agreement signed a long time ago.

Af did with KLM what they did with Air Inter in the mid 90's :

Air France Bought Air Inter. The two airlines merged, but two "preserve" Air Inter identity, A "Holding" was created and called "Compagnie Nationale Air France.
This holding was covering two subsidiaries : Air France based at CDG, operating flights under the brand "Air France", and "Air France Europe", operating domestic flights from ORY under the brand "Air Inter Europe".

The two "subsidiaries" were finally merged into a single company "Air France" on April 1st 1997... operating one single brand : Air France...

Backfire,

"KLM told me categorically two months ago that they were not going to order the A380."

Who at KLM made this statement to you? It must have been someone very high up to make that strong a statement?
