US Airways Airbus 330-300 Delivery Schedule

A330 Delivery Dates Confirmed (pending successful flight attendant contract negotiations and the continued operation of the company)

The firm delivery schedules have been set for the first 6 A330s. Delivery of the first aircraft will depart the factory in France on March 31st and arrive in PIT on April 5th. Proving runs on the first aircraft will begin immediately with the first flight from PIT-London-PIT. The second proving run, which will establish ETOPS certification, will be PIT-London-PHL and the last run will be PHL-London-PIT. The first revenue flight will be flown on May 5th on the 6:00 PM flight from PHL-London-PIT.Additional US Airways A330s will arrive on the property as follows:
A330 #2 April 17, 2000
A330 #3 April 28, 2000
A330 #4 May 19, 2000
A330 #5 June 30, 2000
A330 #6 November 2000

That doesn't make sense. Why would they go to PIT?

The Airbus maintenance facility for US Airways is at TPA, not PIT.

I seriously doubt the accuracy of this post seeing as USAirways does not even fly from PIT to London. This is a route that they and the U.S govt. have been trying to secure through bilateral talks with the British govt. with no success. BA has dropped (or is soon to drop) the route and to the best of my knowledge, USAirways has not been able to acquire the necessary rights to serve the route. Am I mistaken?

On a proving run (non-revenue) flight, USAir can fly any damn place they want to.
Thus LGW-PIT is no problem while the negotiatiors finalize the details of the revenue service that will begin shortly.

PIT-LGW will be restored and flown by the brilliant folks at US. The bilateral talks did end on a sour note but Tony Blair picked up the phone before the US Senate put the lid on Concorde flights and all British Airways service to the United States. Smart move  
US will get the rights to PIT-LGW in short order.

Don't doubt the validity of this post...AirwaysDC9 is a pilot for US.

Hypermike, why do they need to fly from their maintenance base to gain ETOPS certification? I don't think TPA will be the MX base for the 330 anyway.

I could be and have been wrong. It happens occasionally.

If I'm not mistaken, the A319s and A320s first flew into Tampa before going to any of the facilities for showing.

Don't worry...I know next to nothing about USAirways operations. I am probably wrong too.

But I would have thought that CLT would become the base for the 330's kinda like how it is the base for the 762's right now?

Maybe an insider can confirm?

I was not questioning the proving runs, but I was questioning his statement that the first revenue flight would be PHL-London_PIT. I suppose you're probably right about the Brits caving fairly soon and allowing US to reopen this route. Anyway, I look forward to seeing A-330's in US's color scheme no matter where they are flying. Supposedly the first one took off for its first flight yesterday, so we should be seeing some pics fairly soon!

I think that CLT is only a base for the 767-200s because most of them were orders form Piedmonnt which US Airways bought a while back, but im not sure, thats what i think though, well, all i can say is even if Philly isnt the base for them, they will all be flying out of here, with the exception of one or two as PHL is where most of US's European traffic originates! hehe, i can't wait to see them!

I'd love to take credit for my original post folks, but I cant. I simply copied it off of the ALPA-US Airways website and posted it here. Thats the official information whether it makes sense or not.

I have to go fly another 4 day. I'll try and let everyone know when I come back what our loads are like in the domestic east-coast operations. Hopefully we're not already feeling the effects of the flight attendant situation.

Just read the company newsletter, yesterday! Originally, the PHL-LGW route was slated for the first A330 flight on 29 May.Either way, I'm glad it's going into service earlier than planned.
