Will this be a one off plane or all their new 744s?? I really like it!

You think Boeing are paying them to have larger letters for the Boeing than the airline name! Smile/happy/getting dizzy

anyone know why CAL switched engine choices?

I know previous 744Pax aircraft had PW and their 744F had GE, maybe GE was a better engine?

It's awesome. I love the way the tail design blends into the fuselage design, very classy livery indeed!

Yes, it's definitely very whale-like. I mean, the 747 looks like a whale anyway, but those colors really bring it out! Looks great, though.

Wow great to see it on the 747! There's a slight comment I have to make though.. lol To me that pink on the Hibiscus? flower looks out of place against the blues of the fuselage, however the lavender right under the flower is just perfect.

CI dumped Pratt with their recent 747s because Ge simply offered them a deal they couldn't refuse (GE;s recent pricing philosophy has been to almost give away engines with almost no profit and making up by charging exorbitant spares prices) and they were unhappy with P& W over its response to the surge problems on their MD11s.
Another possible political factor may have also been the Taiwanese governments unhappiness with Pratt. The airline is still majority owned by a government controlled entity. The airforce lost a F16 due to misassembly of a subasssembly by Pratt (they pulled the subassembly to check it out as it was a new supplier and it was reinstalled wrongly before delivery). Pratt have refused any compensation as a foreign military sale usually comes with no warranty.

Not as good as I expected, the tail does not match the body. Thye should have done like the other carriers and only had the name on the aircraft, not the tail design.

GREAT looking airplane - except the tail. They should have continued the "flow" of the color scheme.

Whoa, absolutely stunning I say!!! Is this one of the 744s with the new 777 interiors, because I remember hearing CI ordering the first ones (non-ER)?

All new Boeing wideboddies have the Boeing signature interior now. This one definately has it. That Dreamliner scheme is great. Another reason why the 747 is the most beautiful airplane ever

Does anyone know when the aircraft is expected to tbe delivered to CI?

I'm quite curious what it looks like inside. CI is boasting PTVs in all cabins, inflight connectivity, and more...

I concur with you all - one gorgeous bird in this scheme. The whale analogy fits and in this case, that's not a dig. In profile, it does remind me of the majestic silhouette of a blue whale. I wonder if, assuming this isn't just a one-off application per the carrier's request, switching to this livery is perhaps also the beginning of a backhanded campaign to get airlines interested in the proposed Advanced derivative, which would likely carry similar livery insomuch as Boeing will try as much as possible to link it to the 7E7 since its engines would be derived from that airplane's powerplants. Yes, sheer, wild speculation on my part but it just might be... Anyway, Clickhappy, you've done it again and you do this site proud with such remarkable photo scoops!  Big thumbs up

I hope CI sends this aircraft to HNL before they change the livery back to normal. CI does fly the 744 5x a week to HNL.

BTW, it's a plum blossom.

Sorry to disagree, but these colours look much better in a 737-800 (Air Berlin or Ryanair) than on a 747-400. With the upper deck of the 747 there is just something wrong in the distribution of colours.

They are going to use the new 744 on Lax routes only.
I was in Boeing plant about a month ago watching the 3 744 on order being built for CI. I asked and found out that it was the non-ER version.

Nice looking. And a nice marketing idea from Boeing to ask clients to operate aircraft as Boeing-billboards. I agree though the scheme looks best on the 737 so far. And it´ll look stunnning on a 777-200. Wait to see that.

Nice, cool, stunning. The blue is a very comforting colour on this jet, and i think blends well with the pink china airlines livery on the tail. good Job!

It looks fantastic, except that I prefer the dreamliner tail, with the airline name & logo, as opposed to the actual carrier's tail design.
