There where two aircrafts where involved in the evening incident a Ringway International (Manchester). They where a BMI
Baby 737 and an Excel Airways 767. This incident happened around 17:00pm (local time), The cause of this accident is still being investigated.
On the bmibaby Boeing 737 there were 79 people on board - 74 passengers and 5 crew. The Excel Airways had 255 passengers on board.
The passengers have been taken off both aircraft.
Excel – XLA340 Boeing 767 from Manchester to Goa
Bmibaby - WW3007 Boeing 737 from Manchester to Belfast International
Scheduled (bmi) and charter (Excel Airways)
The scheduled time of departure for the bmi flight was 16.15.
The scheduled time of departure for the Excel Airways flight was 15.30. The Excel Airways flight arrived at Manchester from Gatwick at 14.45 with passengers who were flying from Gatwick to Goa.
My beliefs are that both aircraft might of collided when pushing back from T1, as both have gates there. Another stated situation was that they collided on taxiing to 24L, this seens the obvious outcome.
I have just been listening to the Manchester airband frequencies, and it looks like the GND frequency (121.85) has been disabled for obvious reasons (excluding operational purposes). The tone of the TWR ATC seemed alittle down beat as expected. It seems very strange that two airliners of different type such as these could collide in a wingtip brush incident, Manchester GND has a very good view of the movements at MAN
and seems very strange that this incident could not of been spotted sooner.
Will have more details as soon as they become available.
