Credit Towards A Future Flight

Sat Nov 06, 2004 2:59 am

British Airways has offered me a credit equal to the amount i payed three years ago for a flight. It is valid up until the end of this month. I didnt take the flight because it was close to Sept 11 and I was afraid to fly (not to mention their numerous flight cancellations to the USA back then). At that time, this was standard BA practice for passengers like me who opted not to fly.
I approached BA yesterday and they are willing to grant me the credit BUT mentioned that i may have to pay a TICKET CHANGE fee. Is this right for them to do in light of the circumstances that were prevalent on/around Sept 11 under which my credit was issued? Whats my best defense against this or any additional new fees that they may want to charge. Any suggestions?

Thank you.

I'd say it's absolutely correct for them to charge a fee - actually, I'm astonished that they're still willing to give you the credit this month or, for that much, this year: all airlines that I've ever had contact with regarding a credit like that would only carry the credit for a maximum of one year.

Just out of curiosity - what amount are we talking about? $20? $50? $100? And how high is the credit that you've got?

If it is common practice for them to charge a ticket exchange fee, then that's their common practice: after all, you got the credit due to a "common practice at that time" - and the exchange fee is their common practice at this time.

I don't think you'll find any way out of that one.

Smile - it confuses people!
