MUC-HKG Routing

Fri Nov 12, 2004 1:24 pm

I was just browsing through the pictures of LH at HKG and I noticed that LH has a service between MUC & HKG with an A343. Looking at the great circle route of that route, it goes pretty much right over the no-fly area of the himalayas.

So I was wondering, does this particular flight go north via Russia or south via India on the route?

Are 4 engine aircraft restricted from overflying the Himalayas?

HKG usually has a southward route over India to Europe while Shanghai to Europe goes northward over Siberia.

JoFMO,

HKG usually has a southward route over India to Europe while Shanghai to Europe goes northward over Siberia.

HKG used to fly over India to Europe but that was over 7 years ago. Flights to Europe now fly northward to mainland China then go westward over Siberia and enroute to Europe. It saves about an hour's time roughly.

@gigneil
that has nothing to do with loosing one engine. The problem is the decompression scenario. Over this region its almost impossible to descent to an adequate altitude during decompression of round about 10000 feet. Most airlines who flys over the region published some escape routes for the pilots.

Would an A340 from Munich have reached sufficient altitude by the time it reached the himalayas? Wouldn't it still be climbing ?
