It's amazing that he was able to do what he did at CO! Anyone who can clean up the mess created by Frank Lorenzo deserves a lot of respect.

I hope he doesn't go to US. Allegiant needs him! First thing he would do is get some NEW planes! Nothing I love better than sitting on a CO 739 and seeing his video where he tells you are flying the newest aircraft! That man is GOD!!!

maybe Delta....Grinstein has expirence and a passion, but he is doing nothing for the airline itself. Also, this would keep Gordon in SkyTeam.

Another longshot, Spirit? He can grow that airline a ton and at the same time "retire" to Florida!

I just want to remind everyone that even though Gordon is a great guy and I have spoke with him several times, He has also got a great team behind him. Hopefully this team will keep working hard and keep us flying right.

No doubt that CO is on the right track. They should do good without him. To mention some words that come to mind when thinking about ol' Gordo, Stand up guy, respectful, intelligent, experience, great orator and leader.
He will do great where ever he goes. Be reminded that other industries pay much much better for their CEOs. NW just found that out.

So true..... and he takes no credit for Continental's turn around. If you read his book he gives it all to the people that where already there, but hamstring by years of miss managment. I can remember when CAL was a joke of an airline....now they are THE ONLY airline I fly on.

It's been talked about before, but if you can still find a copy of his book.. 'From Worst to First', it is well worth the read.

Even though he's leaving the CEO position he will remain a member of CO's board of directors.

We leaves me to a conclusion that He will retire with CO in his heart. Big grin

Since he will be on the CO BOD, I seriously doubt he will join any other airline in any position...conflict of interest!

He might be recruited by other firms to clean up their messes..maybe Wall Street has a few openings!

With his hate of LCCs, I would not doubt if he went over to DL. He wants to kill AirTran and jetBlue. I hate to say it, he won't be able to do it, but hey, give the man his shot.

So, when Gordon does leave COA, will Ship 001 be un/renamed if he does go to a non-skyteam competitor?

He was just in TUS with a few other Skyteam CEO's. Unfortunately he left early and I wasn't able to meet him. He stayed at the boarding door while the agents boarded the flight though, I thought that was nice.

Question:
If Gordon Bethune goes over to U.S. Airways, won't there be any legal implications or conflict of interest with Continental Airlines?

That would depend on his contract with CO... but effective 31 Dec 2004 he will be unemployed.

Now there has been some mention of him still being on the BoD of CO. Well, IF HE goes to USAirways its easy....

"I Gordon Bethune resign my seat on the BoD of CO."

Signed-Gordon

Need I remind you that CO really helped out F9 in their early years of operation and to an extent still do today?

I have heard here at US he is on his way with a mission to help create a new US AIRWAYS. Also Jonathan Ornstien the CEO of Mesa has something to do with it. Note Ornstein was CEO for COEX for a while.

I still can't understand how US will every make it as a LCC. Even with the help of Gordo. They can't compete with what is out there and they will be begging their creditors every 5 minutes for a break in what they owe to survive. Give me a break.

Yes, that quote was the best! CO is toast. They are just going to limp along for awhile and ask their employees and creditors for help. What an existence.
