JFK-LGA Change - How Much Time?

Sat Nov 13, 2004 9:37 am

Hi all. Sunday I am travelling via delta from BCN to YUL and sadly only alternative was arriving to JFK and changing airport to LGA. I have 5 hours of time to do this. Considering it is a Sunday, how long will the taxi ride be from one airport to the other?

Would have loved to make the trip instead on AF using the BCN-CDG-YUL routing, on a direct CDG-YUL flight on a 744, but DL is offering me a special offer of 15000 extra miles for flying with them Spain-US so... will go thought the extra time and painfull US immigration process to earn those miles...

Anyway, how long is this taxi ride, 1 hour?

Thanks all,

Have done it several times, with the cab ride often being no more than 20-30 minutes. Considering its a Sunday, you might even make it in 15-20minutes!

Pff, no reason to worry then, should make it with enough time to relax a little and see LGA - first time to that airport!

Any guideline on how much USD I should have on me to pay this? Will I be able to pay with credit card?

Just thought about it. I just have euros and canadian with me, no american!

Thanks!  Big grin

The few times I have had to connect LGA/JFK I have taken the NY Airport Express Bus. The schedule is at http://www.nyairportservice.com. It is $13 each way. I am not sure about the forms of payment they accept. A Taxi would be $25 to $30 dollars (plus gratuity) each way.

Good Luck

you will be fine with 5 hours on a Sunday. If you had 3 hours or less on a Friday at 4PM, you would have some serious problems!

carry cash for a cab ride. public transportation is kind of spooky especially on a sunday... You have to check in at least an hour and a half before flyt time, so i would scoot.. There are a couple of decent restraunts there, unfortunatly not in the dl building, i walked over to the us the middle building..and would eat there....Lga is not really a good spotters place, unless your in the diner...I dont know of many transportation companies that accept a credit card... Ive phone ahead to a limo service and gave a cc,over the phone and they would meet me at baggage claim...its about 40 plus tip 50...
i can see for 80 miles

Daevosh.....I've taken the New York Airport Express Bus also..it's cheap, safe, and reliable...the only thing is though is to make sure you give yourself a couple of hours because they make other stops too(i.e. its not direct from JFK to LGA)...its on the schedule on their website....

u'll get a little tour of NYC too..... Big grin

I've paid them cash.....its the easiest.....

AA scheduled me this stupid way once on my way to LHR, the Airport Express Bus is the quickest and most affordable way to transfer from LGA to JFK or vis versa. The least amount of time I'm told an airlines has to give you for this connection is 2 hrs. It really sucked getting your bags and rechecking at the other airport. Good luck!

OT:
With all the domestic feeder flights DL has at JFK for their European network, I'm really surprised they don't have service to YUL.

I'm a LGA based pilot and have lived in Queens my whole life (22 years). Occasionally, they fly us out of JFK and "surface deadhead" us with a shuttle van. This usually occurs at 5 pm in the afternoon when traffic is at it's worst on the infamous Van Wyck Expressway.

Contrary to popular belief. . . it never, ever takes more than 40 or 45 minutes in normal evening traffic. Even if there was some sort of disastrous accident it shouldn't take more than 1 hour. (This would have to be a real big mess).

It's only about 10 miles. If there is no traffic it should take 15 minutes. In normal everyday traffic 20-30 minutes. In rush hour 40 minutes.

But remember the quote from the Seinfeld Episode, "They say nobody has ever beaten the Van Wyck."
