I'm a LGA
based pilot and have lived in Queens my whole life (22 years). Occasionally, they fly us out of JFK
and "surface deadhead" us with a shuttle van. This usually occurs at 5 pm in the afternoon when traffic is at it's worst on the infamous Van Wyck Expressway.
Contrary to popular belief. . . it never, ever takes more than 40 or 45 minutes in normal evening traffic. Even if there was some sort of disastrous accident it shouldn't take more than 1 hour. (This would have to be a real big mess).
It's only about 10 miles. If there is no traffic it should take 15 minutes. In normal everyday traffic 20-30 minutes. In rush hour 40 minutes.
But remember the quote from the Seinfeld Episode, "They say nobody has ever beaten the Van Wyck."
