Why GE Not RR

Sat Nov 13, 2004 11:52 pm

Why did Qantas buy their 744ER with GE engines and not RR like the rest of their 744?

RR Engines are not an option on the ER. GE & Pratt only.

I'm not sure if RR could make an engine powerful enough to meet the range (or was it payload?) requirements of the 747-400ER, although I could be wrong.

Or maybe Rolls-Royce couldn't make an engine fast enough, and Qantas was tired of waiting or didn't want to wait, so they went with General Electric.
