I read a great aviation book at the weekend. It's written by the founder and former CEO of the small, but now successful regional airline (CityJet), and discusses the pitfalls of running an airline, and the importance of Brand, Distribution, Capitalisation and unfair competition by dominant carriers.
It has an interesting behind the scenes look at Virgin Atlantic and Richard Branson (CityJet commence operations as a Virgin Franchise carrier)... as many know Virgin behind the scenes is different to the marketing image... this is only the second time I have seen it in print.
In some ways its a black and white view of airline life to Barbara Cassanis book on Go, which made running an airline sound simply spiffing indeed! This book had too much Gloss and Lipstick and not enough reality.
The book is called Fuelled by Belief: The Cityjet Story, and was published in Late September 2004.
ISBN 1-904148-57-3; 270 pages, including 16 pp B&W photographs
It doesnt seem available on Amazon, but can be bought from the publishers above, at €15.99 (Just over £10 sterling).. Well worth the price of 2 1/2 packets of Marlboro!
