Posting Photos Of Air Force Bases Question.

Tue Nov 16, 2004 2:03 am

I've seen aerials of AFBs at this site. Has anyone gotten into trouble doing so? Does anyone know if there is a prohibition on this?

Unofficial photography of airfield activities at USAF bases has always been prohibited though enforcement has been spotty at best. In the old days, pre fall of the soviet union, taking pictures of say a B-52 sitting alert would have gotten an immediate response from the security forces.

Best thing to do is call the Public Affairs office at the base your interested in and see if you can get a waiver. I've done this and have never had a problem.
You might even get a tour of the installation, it just depends on how busy they are.

Just so long as you don't take any photos of Greek AFB's you'll be fine..... like they really have anything worth hiding anyway!!  Nuts

JeffDCA, you'd be surprised.

Edit:
P.S. I think the original poster was inquiring about people who took pictures of AF installations while overflying them, not necessarily while touring them. Correct me if I'm wrong there.

Actually, I am not surprised at all!!!!!

With all respect, the Greek government has nothing that Britain or the US have not got already. The do not manufacture any equipment of their own that is not under licence from UK/US governments.

What do you base your comments on LY744! because really the Greeks have nothing that is worth our interest apart from the previous olympic games.

Seriously, this is not a joke post just look at the balance of World Power its the USA. European power its Britain. I await your response as I am intrested about what the Greeks have got because the fact you haven't mentioned it proves it is one hell of a stealth, because we can't detect it!

LY744, you are right. I meant pictures of AF installations while overflying them - like on a regularly scheduled commecial flight that happened to pass high overhead an entire base.

Cool it RRFan. Greece has a good thing going with their AF, they are currently taking delivery of Block 50+ F-16C/Ds (not in service with the USAF or RAF BTW). They also sport a number of previous versions of the F-16 as well as Mirage 2000s and possibly still some F-4Es. If not for defficiency in their AEW capabilities, they would be a strong contender for having the most powerful air force in Europe (move over UK, France, Germany, Italy, Spain etc.) for their combination of quality and quantity.

But most importantly, they have an unfriendly and potent neighbour in Turkey, which is the real reason for secrecy. And FYI, there are plenty of pictures on the net taken inside HAF installations on open days and such.

F-16's, Mirage 2000's and F-4E's??? Boy, no ones ever seen or heard of those before! Real secret stuff! RRFan being a good friend of mine, i can tell you he has the connections and knowledge relating directly to this subject. He knows what he's talking about.  Wink/being sarcastic

Cheers,

Jeff
