South Florida To Caribbean/Latin America Market

Tue Nov 16, 2004 5:09 am

What is the market like from South Florida, specifically Miami/Ft. Lauderdale to the Caribbean? Upon searching for flights on engines such as Expedia, it seems as if the majority of the flights which come up are on AA, but via SJU.

Can anyone provide me with a list of flights to the Caribbean and smaller cities in Latin America?

Upon searching for flights on engines such as Expedia, it seems as if the majority of the flights which come up are on AA, but via SJU.

American Airlines perfers to send lower-yielding passengers through San Juan, leaving MIA for higher-yielding passengers. So when you search for the lowest fare on Expedia, there is a better chance you are routed through San Juan on AA. Also, many smaller destinations that cannot support jet service are served with props via SJU, like Dominca and Nevis.

Can anyone provide me with a list of flights to the Caribbean and smaller cities in Latin America?

Luisde8cd,

Mark, has Valencia already been announced as AA´s new destination?

Even if it hasn't, Aeropostal operates the VLN-MIA route, and the thread-starter asked for schedules in general (no airline specified).

No, EddieDude, no MIA-CZM service currently. AA holds dromant route authority and is considering starting the route up again in 2005. They flew it for a short time in 1999.

MAH4546:

Southern South America:
Buenos Aires, Cochabamba (Bolivia), La Paz, Manaus (Brazil), Montevideo, Rio de Janeiro, Salvador da Bahia (Brazil), Santa Cruz, Santiago de Chile, Sao Paulo

Let's do some corrections here. Destinations served by AA in deep South America:

- Argentina: EZE;
- Bolivia: LPB and VVI (via LPB);
- Brazil: GRU and GIG; SSA served codeshare with TAM metal;
- Chile: SCL;
- Paraguay: ASU (via GRU)
- Uruguay: MVD (via EZE);

Any corrections?

Rgs,
Hardi

There are no corrections, because that list was all desintinations served by all airlines from MIA non-stop. Not AA.

Yes, I forgot Grand Cayman, though Cayman Brac is on there.

The Miami-San Juan flight has been a flight through the years with tag on flights to other destinations in the Carribbean. Eastern for years had MIA-SJU flights that continued on wityh no change of plane to places such as Aruba, St Maarten, Martinique, Guadelope and others. TWA did the same from Fort Lauderdale to San Juan in the late 90s, with a flight that continued on to Antigua and another to Aruba. AA does the same now from MIA. So in fact many of these destinations have been and are presently served by direct flights from South Florida.

None of AA's MIA-SJU flights tag on to other Caribbean destinations. They used to have same plane MIA-SJU-ANU, but not anymore.

I stand corrected on AA. Eastern did for years promote direct service from Miami to several islands when the flight stopped in San Juan. Eventually by the mid 80s Eastern flew just about everywhere in the Carribbean nonstop from Miami though.
