New Mexican Start Up: A Volar Airlines, UA Behind?

Tue Nov 16, 2004 8:00 am

Yes! Another start-up project of many going on at the moment! But with the big difference that airline has all the paper work done and its set to start a.s.a.p. in 2005, they got SCT/DGAC (Mex DOT/FAA) approval!

So far the only thing made public has been the name:
A Volar Aerolíneas

More about the airline (spa):
http://edicion.yucatan.com.mx/noticias/noticia.asp?cx=9$0000000000$3088071

According to the article it says airline pretends to fly only in Mexico and they want to be considered as another real and good option for the travelers.

On another side note I asked a reliable contact if he knew something about this start-up he answered back telling me he previously heard something and United Airlines is kind of involved behind. They want to make A Volar Airlines a feeder airline for their flights in Mexico. Anyone in the States that could confirm or denied it?

The association is by coincidence only.

My guess is that they want to take the domain/trademark name "AVOLAR" as it is owned by United.

Avolar was United's attempt to enter the fractional business jet market; it was shut down shortly after John W. Creighton became CEO of UAL.

If I remember well, Avolar made a lot of orders for business jets... & yes, it was shut down shortly after it was launched.

Anyway, if that new airline can give us (as a customers) good prices for flying, it will be welcomed a lot!!!!

No mommy I want to say it first,

OMG THIS IS THE END OF UNITED!!!

JK, I feel that UA has a good balance of US-Mexico routes with their 32s a/c and maybe a few TED routes. Sending TED down there would make more sense than opening a whole new LCC. Man there is a lot of $hit stirring down in Mexico these days...

Take Care,
