A380 Roll-Out On Jan 18/19 / 1st Flight In Feb

Tue Nov 16, 2004 6:54 pm

Flug Revue publised another interesting report on the A380 which you can find here: http://flug-revue.rotor.com/FRHeft/FRHeft04/FRH0412/FR0412d.htm

They put two days on the schedule for the roll-out ceremony. I knew the plane's long but I wasn't aware it takes two days for the A380 to roll-out ...  Big grin

The maiden flight will probably take place in the first half of February, the author says.

The article provides some very interesting information on future materials, weight and the following tests as well.

Interesting to read that MSN 001 and 004 will be painted in Toulouse rather than Hamburg in Airbus´ NEW housecolours!!!

So roll-out and first flight will be in full paint! That will some spectacular sight.....

Thanks for the information NoUFO. Ka, what are the new Airbus colours. I wasn't aware that Airbus would introduce a new look as well. It will be a good marketing move to introduce a new look for Airbus' line of future aircraft generations, just like Boeing is doing with the 7E7. Long live the aviation!!!  Wink/being sarcastic

I look forward to the 380's first flight a lot!! Does anyone have an idea of when approximately it will start flying further and visit other parts of the world? I can't wait to see one here in Hong Kong!

I would like to know a bit more about aluminum lithium. There's been a lot of talk about it.

Yes the roll out is scheduled. With it's weigh, I wouldn't be superised if that's all it'll be doing(rolling).
Just Kidding. Good to see it moving along. It is the only Airbus I actually want to experience.

First flight during the first half of February? Cool! It's going to be an interesting time. I do hope Airbus does a webcast like Boeing did with the 777-300ER's first flight (which I missed anyway), it's an important moment in commercial aviation history.

Thanks for the interesting link, NoUFO.

cheers, Ralph

I definitely plan on going if I can make the time to go.!!

However, I wonder if this plane is still a bit overweight or not...time will tell..but it will DEFINITELY be a sight to see!!!!

"A380 wingtips by up to four metres, but eventually, the ultimate load will finally be ascertained here by brutally yanking the wingtips of MSN 5000 upwards by ten metres"...everyone.....clear out!!

First flight in February sounds very interesting! If it is between the 3rd and the 9th that would be excellent as I have a short holiday during that week. But who cares about school, I'll go anyway Big grin

I'm also very curious as to the alleged new Airbus scheme!

Federico:

Yeah, I will cut school also to be there! I HAVE TO BE THERE! This is really a "one-in-your-life-time-chance". Just like the first flight of the 747 back in '69!

But for the media (and other interested people like us): how long before the first flight will Airbus give the date for the first flight? A week before or something like that?

I'll be in the UK in Feb but I doubt I will make the trip due to the short time in the UK.

This will be one of the biggest events in aviation history.

Ultimate loads are usually 1.4 to 1.6 times Limit loads.
But the quoted deflection difference - 10 meters vs 4 meters
is a factor of 2.5. I recognise that wing structures have nonlinear
deflection characteristics, but this huge difference seems too much.
Any comments ?

The wing is designed to accept a much larger and heavier fuselage than the one attached... potentially you'll get numbers closer to your expectations when they do the ultimate load test of an A380-900.
