Northwest Establishes Pay Rate For 7E7 Pilots

Thu Nov 18, 2004 2:02 am

Not exactly heart-stopping news, but interesting nonetheless...

Aerospace Notebook: $213 an hour for pilots who fly 7E7

Northwest Airlines is the first U.S. carrier whose pilots now have a pay rate should they ever fly Boeing's 7E7 jetliner. The Dreamliner job would pay $213 an hour for a Northwest pilot with 12 years' experience as a captain.

In addition to the 7E7, the Northwest contract includes an hourly pay rate for the Airbus A330-800 and A330-900. A spokesman for the Northwest chapter of the Air Line Pilots Association said the A330-800/900 mentioned in the new contract would cover future variants of the A330 that Airbus might develop.

Although the new pilot contract with Northwest covers the 7E7 and a possible A330 derivative from Airbus, it does not mention the A380 -- the 555- passenger Airbus giant that will soon make its debut.

Common, it happens frequently from time to time. The NW pilots had a payrate for the A340 when it was originally ordered. When the pilot contract was written in 1998, they had a workrule provisioning for flying from the US-South Africa, but that never came to fruition

This is old news, and was mentioned in several other topics.

Also, the pay scale in the contract has A330-800/900

Hmm, looks like NW knows something that perhaps most dont, whats airbus got rolled up their sleeve, however, they did make some other comments to the A338/339 that they didnt make about the 7e7 given the 7e7 some steam.

A330-800 and A330-900? Do they mean A380?

I don't know how most pilot contracts work, but for AA, the payscale is based on weight of aircraft. Obviously, a specific dollar figure must be assigned to a new aircraft type, but it's a very easy process. It's a matter of getting the official weight of the aircraft from the manufacturer.

The A380 NW already said that it was uninterested in and that it would not be a profitable aircraft and has far too many problems with opearations that it would only hurt the airline.

I don't know if this is a typo, but it appears that NW has payscale for the 777 as well.

A Northwest 747-400 pilot with 12 years as captain will make $232 an hour under the new contract, or $208 an hour on a 777.

Can you provide evidence of that?

Because I think you made it up.

I have the Sept/Oct issue of Airliners Magazine on pg 53, in which it refers NW as a likely customer. However it paraphrases Richard Anderson saying that NW is not interested in the A380, not even as a frieghter. It goes on to say that this could change in future. I don't think NW, or any US carrier will order it.

I don't disagree that NW isn't currently interested.

Its the rhetoric that I don't believe was spoken.

So, which planes does Northwest NOT have a pay rate for? Big grin

I don't think they have a payrate for the 777, 767, or the 737. If they did have one for the 737/767 when they were a hot item, they don't have them anymore. I don't the 777 has really been a serious contender for a fleet type. I think NW is entertaining the 7E7 due to the fact that Boeing is campaigning hard to sell this plane to us. I hope they are successful this sales blitz.
