JetBlue Looks At MDW

Fri Nov 19, 2004 11:50 am

This is awesome news if it is true. I fly between Midway and Miami/Lauderdale almost monthly with ATA, and would love to make the switch to jetBlue on this route:

I read somewhere today that B6 called the press's hoax and stated they were definitely NOT looking at acquiring any gates at MDW. The question is, which city pairs is AirTran going to do?

flying to MDW would be good since we've been wanting to get into Chicago for the longest time now. but the bad side...and i mean very bad side of this is Southwest having a BIG home there. not only are they trying to get a few more gates from ATA/City of Chicago but aren't they also gonna focus on MDW operations more for 2005? we've done VERY well in avoiding direct compitition w/ WN but flying to MDW would be the cake topper. since its pretty much a 100% possibility that we would connect MDW w/ florida and Cali along w/ any other destination IF we started flying out of MDW, there would be direct competition w/ WN ...(remember i'm saying "IF" we flew there)

I personally would prefer ORD but of course w/ all the drama going on there w/ flights needing to be reduced to ease the congestion...it'll be a long time till a new domestic carrier can probably get into ORD that doesn't serve it yet.

Best of luck to all!!

B6FA4ever-Never say never...somehow I have a feeling that if UA went under, jetBlue would be announcing new cities en masse out of ORD in about 3 seconds...

SHUPirate1,

very true! but not IF UA went under...but what if US Airways went out of business...that would probably be the "foot in the door" for us to get into ORD. (for the US lovers...plz don't take what i said wrong... i just said "IF") i don't want to see a lot of employees losing their jobs/dreams. only time will tell!

B6FA4ever-I'm one of those "US-lovers", and I can read well enough to see that you said if. If US went out of business, you'd probably be able to start a few flights, but if UA went out of business, that would mean that 50-something gates would be up for grabs at O'Hare, as opposed to just a few (not sure of the exact number) if US went under. It would do wonders for the congestion at O'Hare, that's for sure!

Not that big of a question. Probably the same destinations as ATA (not including ATA connection), give or take one or two.

at least from YYZ, MDW failed with Canjet.
I did not work at all and it was closed within 2 months or so.

I've read over the past few years that B6 wants 4 or 5 gates at either Chicago airport, but preferrably ORD.

The last time I checked, US had only 2 or 3 gates at ORD. A few years ago, it had 1 or 2 more. But if US goes under, are those 2 or 3 enough for B6? If HP is interested in ATA's operation at MDW, then it might be interested in US's ORD gates, since it operates out of the same terminal.

I believe the 2 US gates on the F concourse, F8 and F10, are owned by United but sublet to US, so UA would grab'em and keep em...

I´m guessing as there´s enough players in the market, B6 will wait for it´s E-190´s to enter some markets as CLE, PIT, MDW/ORD, ATL, YYZ, ISP,CLT, DTW, DFW, the mid west, MEXICO, and more Carebian, as St.Marteen, Aruba etc etc.
Otherwise, why da hell would they order 100planes+100 in options?!ehehe

have a nice day guys.

Are you sure about that? I was under the impression that UA didn't own anything in T-2. It wouldn't be as crappy if they did.
