The Italian carrier Eurofly (ex-Alitalia charter division) is planning to start 3 weekly direct flights between Naples, Italy and New York city with 332 equipments.
Flights would be operated only during summer season (June- September 2005).
Great news, even if just from Naples which is far from my home in Italy....
but at least it seems somebody is starting to compete is some way with AZ on longhaul, hopefully this flight is just the beginning: I would love to see Eurofly opening some scheduled longhaul ops from MXP to north america!
It's funny because Eurofly was part of AZ since a few ago... LOL
Which airport will they use - JFK or EWR? Will most of their business be on charter/package trips or will it be true scheduled service? There are a lot of decendants of people from that region of Italy in the NYC area, so direct service will be very good for those going directly to there, rather than changing in Rome.
as far as i can imagine it will be not much more than a summer charter flight, but the reason is the one you mentioned so the lot of people with italian origin in the NYC area. this is the right time for such an attempt, hope Eurofly will be lucky on that route!!
"Eurofly announces JFK service"
Eurofly announced it plans to operate a seasonal summer service from Naples to New York JFK from June through September 2005. The airline is planning to operate 3 flights a week with its Airbus A330-200 on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays.
There will be sure other Italian (probably 2) cities linked to JFK always by Eurofly. You have only to wait on line...
