737-600's For WestJet?

Mon Nov 22, 2004 10:52 pm

I just read in a press release that WestJet, a Canadian airline, has converted an option into a firm order consisting of one 737-600. Does that make sense? I know the 600 shares a lot of commonality with the 700 but they want only ONE unit of the 600 variant, maybe more on option. WestJet operates an all-737 fleet, most of which being 700 Series, now they want to phase in only one 600. Do they really want the 600 or is it just a typing mistake?
Any clarification on this will be appreciated. Thanks.

It must be a typo. In August they converted 6 options to firm orders for the 600.

Not a typo at all.

Westjet ordered 6 737-600 in August with Purchase Rights for an additional 12. They have now converted 2 Purchase Rights into "Firm" deliveries. This means they now have 8 Firm 736 on order and 10 remaining Purchase Rights for the model. Neither of the coversions have appeared on Boeing's Order site yet but WJ have Board approval so expect them to be listed shortly.

P.S. Source CALGARY, ALBERTA--(CCNMatthews - Nov. 22, 2004) - WestJet today announced its

The original poster is correct. Here is part of the story from this morning:

CALGARY (Dow Jones)--WestJet Airlines Ltd. (WJA.T) has approved the purchase
of one additional Boeing 737 aircraft by converting the second of 12 purchase
options with Boeing Corp. (BA) into a firm delivery.
In a press release, the company said the 737-600 aircraft is scheduled to be
delivered in 2006.

He is right but also he also was unaware that WestJet had already ordered 7 737-600. They are adding 1 737-600 to the ones already on "firm" order.

This is good. It would be really nice to see the -600 take off, in the way the -500 did. I love SAS-600s...little rockets those things are.

Hr001

Correct, total order now stands at 8 "Firm" and 10 Purchase Rights. Of note, a Pruchase Right usually gets converted to an Option and then the Option converted into a Firm order. Westjet are going staright to Firm orders so expect more incremental orders like this.

I've also been told that we are to have winglets installed on our 737-600's. Nothing official from Boeing but that's what our mechanics have been saying.
