Tue Nov 23, 2004 6:30 pm

There was a report in the local newspaper of an A300 engine shutdown on a recent GOI-BOM flight. Any details?

This is second time in 2 weeks that A300 on GOI-BOM sector has had technical problems. Sometime back, the A300 was hit by a tractor on the tarmac and was allowed to fly after a "brief" technical checkup by a new recruit at the Mx.

One of the A300's (EVC/EHC an ex-Air Philipines aircraft) has a reputation for being "jinxed". This particular aircraft has had the maximum number of engine shutdowns causing return to base, atleast 2 cases of mid-air turbulence causing injuries, numerous incidents/accidents during maintainance (like a worker being blown against a fence during an engine runup and another maintainance engineer being cut into 2 when the front landing gear retracted accidentally while being tested on ground) etc etc!

One of the A300's (EVC/EHC an ex-Air Philipines aircraft) has a reputation for being "jinxed".

The ex-Filipino aircraft was VT-EVC which has been returned to lessor in 2003. She indeed had a reputation for being highly snag-prone, which is why her lease was not renewed but instead sent for scrapping.

VT-EHC on the other hand was a May 1982 delivery direct to Indian Airlines.

The aircraft hijacked to Kandahar was an old A300B2 registered VT-EDW and is currently lying derelict at Mumbai.

It looks like an A320...but does Indian Airlines have A320's with double bogie landing gears?

What are you talking about guys, clearly it's a A300, hence the double boggie landing gear.

This just in my fathers flight from DEL-BOM on IC A320 developed hydrolics failure and passengers were stranded on the runway for quite sometime-no injuries reported as he phoned me from inside the aircraft

The ex-Filipino aircraft was VT-EVC which has been returned to lessor in 2003. She indeed had a reputation for being highly snag-prone, which is why her lease was not renewed but instead sent for scrapping.

She once cut up a technician into two who was working with half his body up the nosewheel well. The aircraft was on jacks and an engineer activated the gear up and the doors closed on the poor bloke slicing him in two. Aircraft was seized by the cops and remained in "custody" for a few days. VT-EVC could be distinguished from other IC A300s in that her starboard engine cowling (only) was partly painted white with the standard grey fuselage underside. VT-EVD also had engine cowlings partly in white but this aircraft was unique in having its entire fuselage in white as well.

heres a pic of VT-EVC during her last days.

IC is only airline that has 320s with double bogies wheels. this was due to the rather rough runways in India......

This is the best of the article:

On November 6, an Airbus 300 hit a tractor and then took off for Mumbai, allegedly without mandatory inspections

Why does this always happen in India.. why do they hit a tractor??

Edit: First I thought it hit a farmer's tractor while taking off.. sorry Big grin

Edit2: Still, this isn't supposed to happen  Innocent

Karan,Sorry I could not get more details last night, there were many snags to attend. However,Checked out Aircraft was VT-EPL,Pilot declared Emergency,Landed & was stuck on the Rnwy blocking it for over 20 min before Towed away, this happened around 2230 hrs.
Around 0200 hrs I seen it being towed to the Mx Hangar on the Northern side. The Cause was Stby System Hydraulic Failure. While it was being towed the MLG Doors were open. And the Towing was Very very slow.

BTW regarding the A320 Engine shutdown incident, these Aviation correspondences make things look so dramatic,& so far from the Truth.
