Booking Class T & U

Hi All,

I've got tickets with the booking class T and U (on Delta). What are they?

probably just different fares that were available to make your tickets, if one or the other was not available it picked from the lowest one remaining. T fare is the lowest, U is right above that, both probably mean penalty for changes/no refund/non endorseable/miss the flight your'e out of luck tickets.

When I fly Delta on Class T, they only give me 1/2 the miles for a particuler destination. For ex. On a ATL to DAY run, I only earned 250 miles towards medallion status.

Actually, you get 375 MQMs for that flight. In 2004, the minimum MQM was raised from 250 to 375 - just like if you buy normal tickets (H,Q,K,S), you will now get 750 MQMs for the 500 mile minimum flight.

The disadvantage for non-elite members flying on L,U,T fares is that you cannot purchase F/C upgrades if offered at the gate. If you are not a frequent DL traveler and don't care about earning elite qualifications, it doesn't matter whether you fly L,U,T or H,Q,K. They are all non-refundable anyway.

What if you are a DL FF, but not elite, and want to use miles to get upgrades. Can these be put towards a U fare? It isn't clear on http://www.delta.com if this is possible or not.

I'm flying SDF - ATL - SEA on Tuesday and back on Thursday and would love to have a better seat than 40G.

LTU's are NOT upgradable for even elites using miles. For medallion's (elite), you must be booked in Y, B, or M. Elites can request standby upgrades on any fare. Surprisingly, mine a couple weeks ago, booked in L, cleared for upgrades BWI-CVG-Portland. Non-elites I believe have to be booked on a full fare coach ticket for upgrades using miles. My suggestion: Fly more and make medallion. Haven't had an upgrade not clear in 6 months and dont fly on fully discounted fares.

L,T,and U ARE UPGRADEABLE FOR ELITES on DL. L,T, and U are revenue fares, and are subject to the confirmation windows of this class (12 hours for Gold/Silver, 24 hours for Platinum) for unlimited upgrades. To Joe-normal "don't care about being elite or upgrading" customers, L, T, and U are simply the best deals. You still earn the same # of SkyMiles that you would in K, Y, B, M, H, and Q. B4REAL

Wow, now I am totaly confused. I will fly IAD-ATL-FLL. How many miles I will get? (I'm not elite flyer with DL, this year I did only 8 segments with them).
Here is what I've got last weekend:

21 Nov 2004 Delta Flight 474 from Cincinnati, OH to Washington-Dulles, DC (T) 500 0 500 375
21 Nov 2004 Delta Flight 5770 from Greenville/Spartanburg, SC to Cincinnati, OH (T) 500 0 500 375
20 Nov 2004 Delta Flight 4708 from Atlanta, GA to Greenville/Spartanburg, SC (T) 500 0 500 375
20 Nov 2004 Delta Flight 1027 from Washington-Dulles, DC to Atlanta, GA (T) 534 0 534 375.
So which miles are actually used toward my free ticket and which are going towards my elite status?

L, U, and T are the class of fares below K. There are many fare indicators, we will soon run out of letters. I've said for a while (JOKINGLY) that fare rules are more complicated than flying the a/c.

Don't make it too complicated. A fare class is in summary (in DL speak):

L U T - Deep discount coach
K Q H S- Discounted coach
Y B M - flexible/full-fare coach
F A - First class
J P D I C- Business (some of these may actually be first class)
X - Upgraded from Coach to Biz
V - upgraded from Coach to First class
N - Coach reward travel
R - First class reward travel
O - Business reward travel

These only designate how many MQMs you earn OR if you earn SkyMiles for the flight activity. N, O, and R do not earn SkyMiles

Lindy to answer your question on how many miles, I am reading your post and see that you will earn 500+500+500+534 = 2034 SkyMiles
