When I travel, I usually go to OAK
because fares are usually a few dollars cheaper. It is a little farther than SFO
but not that much longer to drive with average traffic(crappy). The Richmond bridge is free going east bound, but $3 dollar toll going west. At least it isn't the G&G bridge charging 5 bucks to go to SF
. The airporter bus costs about 25 bucks one way to either SFO
, ironically it picks up passengers at STS
. From what I remember, the old Skywest/UA Emb 120s were pretty frequent. I am sure UAEXEMB120 knows more about that. For a small airport, STS
has pretty good facilities, Check in counter, a small beltway for bags, Cafe, more than one rental car company. Horizon would be a good start and if they are sucessful, others may join. Hopefully UA
can find a good carrier to do the contract work, but I think it may be awhile for them with their financial troubles. I used to live in Napa, and that was almost an equal drive time from SFO
, or SMF
Speaking of Rail, there was recently an intiative to put passenger service on existing tracks called SMART(Sonoma Marin Area Rapid Transit or somthing). It was to have run from San Rafael to Santa Rosa and then possibly up to Ukiah. Sonoma voted yes and Marin voted no...no doubt opposed by the same wealthy people who oppose Hamilton. Well when STS
starts bringing in wine country tourists that bypass Marin county, they may start to think twice...who knows.
God was my copilot, but we crashed in the mountains and I had to eat him...
