Any Spotters At PVD Today?

Mon Nov 29, 2004 11:48 am

I understand runway 16 was being used as the active quite a bit today, due to strong winds. It's quite short, 6,081 feet. It has a 500 foot displaced threshold for landing due to obstructions on approach and virtually no clear zone. To anyone who knows PVD, it's a rare treat to see the big jets landing on runway 16.

My dad flew into PVD, but they didnt use Runway 16, because they were to heavy. So they had to use Rwy 5. It was a DC-9-50

Burnsie, I've seen 757s land on 16, so a DC-9-50 is certainly NOT a problem. The wind direction may have changed by the time your father flew in. Did your dad fly in today?

Keep in mind that the 757 has much better performace off of short fields especially when compared to the DC-9!
Experience is what you get when what you thought would work out didn't!

Yes he arrived PVD at 11:23a the day that you are talking about. I asked him when I saw this post if he landed on that runway, he said they were too heavy at the time to land on 16.

Equip was a DC-9-50

How does your father know that they were heavy? Unless the pilot came on and said something (which I doubt...what normal passenger would care) then I doubt that he could have known such information.

Unless he was the pilot. In that case, well....nuff said.
