Just wanted to see if anyone on here had a clue re: what happened at EWR yesterday. I was traveling on UA 70 SFO-EWR and we left SFO I think around 12:20p--4 hours late. We had a scheduled departure of 8:30a, and just before 8:00, the monitor changed to inform us of an 11:45 departure. That time was posted for most of the morning. I guess I can't say whether the flight was given a wheels up time right away at 8:00 or whether they got it later and just guessed right on the monitor.
Now I know the weather was bad in the AM in NYC area. Obviously there will be a bottle neck. But how on earth can the JFK flights be leaving on time--no delay at all--while the EWR flights are affected to the tune of 4 hours???!! Is it just the congestion at EWR that makes it sensitive to delay? Is it that JFK can have simultaneous ILS arrivals on 13-31? (do they ever even do that?)
Also some guy in the cab line at EWR mentioned a rumor about a power outage in addition to the weather.
Finally, I will report, after spending all morning at SFO, that for one of the busiest days of the year, it was remarkably civilized. My flight was the only blemish on the UA board--not counting some UAX flights here and there. Bravo everyone (and mother nature).
