It was a weak market previously, but it has turned the corner for WN
Of the flights that I mentioned where I thought they could fill some holes, only DTW
is a WN
route. I say DTW
because of rumors last spring that suggested it would be restarted.
According to interactive route map on Southwest's website: LAX LAS SAN SJC SMF PDX
are all Soutwest cities. LAS
is a hub in all but name, and the others all have significant operations. Only LGA
remains of the above list, and it is capacity constrained. There are very few if any places AA
can expand domestic from St Louis without low fare competition.
Southwest has added a few flights since AA
cut back, but not a huge number. They warned the city that cutbacks by AA
would not neccesarily mean a great deal more Southwest service, and have made good on their word. My guess is they are doing better in terms of yield, but not enough to make Saint Louis an attractive expansion opportunity compared to other cities. Most AA
traffic will be simply lost, since in O&D terms, much of it was never there to begin with.
