UC Davis University Airport 0O5

Tue Nov 30, 2004 1:17 pm

Hello everyone
I am going to be making a little solo trip from STS on wednesday. I have a buddy who might be going to UC Davis for his post graduate work and I would love to scout out the area. Has anyone landed there or familiar with the airspace?
Cheers

Yes I flew some friends there to meet a friend at UCD summer 2003.

There's really not much activity in the area - I only had to be watchful over the movements at Travis AFB - watched a KC-10 on approach fly underneath us, which was cool.

You should have no problems, airspace-wise.

Thanks UA

I'll be flying over in a Comanche 250 so it should be a quick trip. From STS it looks like a straight shot right over Lake Berryessa. What airport do you fly out of?

My home airport is SQL.

When I take people up flying, my favorite place to go is HMB cause of the quick but still breathtakingly scenic flight, and the great cafe over there.

Yeah I would say we are pretty lucky to live in this area, whether driving Hwy 1 or flying around the coast or wine country, the views are always spectacular

TJ,

I lived in Davis for 10 years! I'm sure you'll find our little airport to be no problem to get in or out of.

Enjoy my town!

Regards, Dom

Thanks Dom,
I look foward to laying down a little grease at Davis. Anything I should pass on too my buddy comming to the University? He was choosing between that and Berkely. I think he made the right choice...Berk is a good college but a pretty crazy place and too big to have a personality I think. Davis seems a little smaller and personal I think.

"Anything I should pass on too my buddy comming to the University?"

Yeah, tell him to make sure to go for drinks and burgers at the "Grad" (right across the street from campus).

Also, Woodstock's is the best pizza place in D-town, and my favourite pub is the G Street Pub (with live music).

Of course Sacto is only about 15 miles away with a chance to see the Gov!

Hi,

I spent 10 weeks in Davis back in '96.
The airspace is far from being congested indeed!

I remember these beautiful sights over Lake Beryessa, the shoreline and San Francisco skyscrapers. At that time, you could fly 500ft over the top of the buildings. I assume you can't even think about it anymore.

My best US flights were two years later though, when I was in Long Beach. There I made a 3-day PA-28 trip over the gorgeous national parks (Zyon, Grand Canyon, Monument Valley, Lake Powell, awesome night landing at Las Vegas Int'l !) Do I miss these days!!

Have fun.

I'm from Davis originally! Cute little airport.

Head over to Sudwerk in East Davis for beers.

Hey everyone,
The trip went well, I spent about 20 mins on the ground walking around, couldn't go to the bars cause i had to fly back obviously but I will definately pass that info to my buddy. It took about 15 mins in the Comanche each way from STS.
