Memories Of New York Air

Tue Nov 30, 2004 11:20 pm

Well, since we are all doing the memory thing, let's talk about NY.

Ah, those wonderful shuttle flights, the "flying Nosh", great service....what are your thoughts?

So many times, I would go up on the old observation deck at Detroit Metro (the one that was on top of what is now concourse C at the Smith terminal)....New York Air used the first gate on the north side of that concourse....seeing that beautiful, clean, red MD-80 sitting at that gate made the cost of admission to the deck (10 cents) worth every penny.
Having a smoking section in a restaurant is like having a peeing section in a swimming pool.....

Anyone know what the major routes were? And also from which NYC airports did NY air fly from?

I remember seeing a NY air aircraft at Washington DCA in 1985!

AMS:

The LGA-BOS, LGA-DCA shuttle was huge for NY, was eventually sold to PA to later become the DL Shuttle.

HUBS, EWR, RDU

I several times on NY during the summer of 1984. They offered cheap rates and excellent service. My flights were mostly out of LGA on DC-9-30s and once on an MD-82 late at night to DCA, flying over Central Park with a fantastic view of Manhattan and then the same coming into DC. Very fond memories of a wonderful airline.

I don't know much about them (I'm too young) except that their former CEO, Michael Levine, was instrumental in deregulation in the late 1970's and now teaches aviation law at Yale.

Very talented man!

I flew them a few times between Islip, Long Island, NY to Washington IAD.

Great fares. Nice 737-300, DC-9-30's and MD-80's. Pretty red paint scheme. Nice onboard service: Breakfast bagels, Afternoon/Evening Nosh: breads, cheese/crackers, and wine. Not sure if wine was free? Cute flight attendants. I remember those 737-300's and MD-80's took off like rockets at ISP. A nice little hub operation at IAD that catered to the business person. Too bad they did not last.
