Are you sure that they will start these routes?

Applying for slots does not mean that they will start the route! (Although I would love additional service to BSL hehe  Big thumbs up )

Great news!!!!!  Smile  Smile

I got an e-mail off them this evening to say I have been invited to an interview (Held in Luton for LGW) for cabin crew so I guess I might be able to get based there (Since I'd have to move from MAN to LGW should I get in).

Nice to have some competition at Manchester finally.

LS shouldn't worry really but I think WW will be a little nervous as their Manchester Operation is kinda small.

If it so comes so then I guess that CGN-MAN (HLX) and DTM-MAN (U2) will kill each other and in the end no route will survive... Unless of course things change and demand increases with the addition of the new service.

They've also applied for twice daily EasySwiss GVA-MAN. Don't forget though, this could just be a decoy by EZY, look what happened when BD applied for slots from MAN to CDG, MAD and BRU, they turned out to be slots for WW. Lets wait and see. Might try and ask Peter Hampson if I see him wondering around the terminal tomorrow when im at work!

Phil (FlyingColours), I guess WW will be very worried considering their incoherent strategy and expansion plans, but even though J2 are by far a better organised airline they'll probably watch developments carefully.

Currently both carriers serve (or will serve) the follwing destinations from MAN:

J2
Alicante
Budapest
Faro
Geneva
London/Gatwick
Malaga
Murcia
Nice
Pisa
Valencia
Venice

WW
Alicante
Belfast
Bordeaux
Cork
Jersey
Knock
Malaga
Murcia
Palma Mollorca
Paris
Prague

So there will be some overlapping between all 3 carriers and can be argued that some route can't sustain 2 carriers let alone 3. I guess we'll have to wait and see...

Horus, WW stopped the MAN-BOD, MJV and CDG routes at the end of october. They have reduced the number based a/c from 4 to 3, but on a positive side have increased BFS to 4 daily and PRG to twice daily.

Thanks for the correction MANmatt...their website still shows them as destinations out of MAN but when you come to book a flight it says they're unavailable.

How do WW decide where to fly to ? Do they put a pin in a map and hope for the best? Have they ever had a coherant strategy. Whilst mainline BMI is good Baby is a shambles and lets the side down.

Flycro, i think they pin a map of europe on a dart board, throw a dart at it and wherever it lands nearest to, theres your next WW destination! lol

Horus, try doing MAN-EMA in the WW website, don't know if it had been possible but the postioning flight for one of their aircraft when the reduced the number of based aircraft at MAN on 31st october is in the database! I wonder if you could have booked on that!

Seeing Jet 2 and Flybe successfully expand I hope Baby feel suitably ashamed of the shambles they have created of there company! Not to mention FR and U2 march on and on and on...

MANmatt, that would have been a strange flight but I doubt you could've booked a seat on it. Though earlier this year MON's scheguled arm (ZB) had a series of flights route TFS-LTN-LGW. I remember when I made a thread about it (can't find it now as search isn't working) someone mentioned that they combined some TFS-LGW and TFS-LTN flights as demand was very low.

Cheers Tom, thanks for the info. I get the feeling that WW have kind of run out of ideas for MAN, hopefully they'll notice that they are going to be under pressure next summer at MAN and begin to expand again. If the are re-launching BOD, then that will require an extra based aircraft, this will mean that perhaps another two routes could be added? Will have to wait a couple of days to find out their summer '05 schedule ex. MAN

If (and it's a big if!) they start, don't expect any based aircraft as there is no room at the inn at the moment - they'll probably be operating "w" patterns.

Not surprised you've heard nothing Glenn, MAN was the original choice for their North England hub but they appeared to have less then fruitful talks with the MAN management team 5 or so years ago, and so they talked to LPL and signed a deal with them for "exclusive" flights for about 20 years or so. Hence, it'd be a bit of a shock for them to start here now...

Surely it would be better for them to build up Liverpool and defend there patch against the Irish than start a base afresh a few miles down the road?

They appear not to want to compete with FR on some routes, CIA and VCE moved from STN to LGW this winter, they may prefer to to operate from more primary airports in the hope that FR won't go there and they can compete more head on with the traditional airlines.

Is there any news on expansion at EMA?????? I heard and keep hearing that they either want to expand on one hand or pull out completly on the other. Any info greatly appriciated.
Also regarding EZY setting up at MAN, it would be very similar to the shambles that is bmibaby with EMA and BHX both being bases.

Final question does anyone know what a/c EZY use between LTN and NCE over the weekends.

Kind Regards

Stu

Stu, funny you should ask about EMA...

Does anyone know if EZY are still using the ex-Go B733s on their STN-CPH route? Feedback would be appreciated.

Hurrah! More Belfast! EZY certainly seem to like operating there!

All in all very lucky for me getting to Sheffield and back as Manchester is the easiest airport to use, and as cheap as bmibaby can be, they are still dear! For example, Jan20th-25th BFS-MAN-BFS with WW even during the "free sale" would have been £30.45 by the time they add on their charges. Easyjet BFS-LPL-BFS: £11 in total! Its a bit less convenient, but then again I can see family in Liverpool and I prefer easyJet for reliability and as far as I am concerned nicer aircraft. I just hope they don't neglect LPL. Aren't they under contract there?

Source: Travel Trade Gazette (Publication)

"Easyjet has denied it has plans to switch to or operate from Manchester, as Ryanair unveiled the Merseyside airport as its latest base. Easyjet had applied to start 13 routes from Manchester next summer, but a spokesman said rumours of a move to Manchester were 'complete nonsense'.

"We were talking to them and did apply for slots, but have decided not to operate from Manchester' she said.

"We still have 16 years of our contract at Liverpool left"

Sorry to burst everyones bubble here, but it looks like it isn't happening!

Bugger!

Hi Guys,

I would like to see EZY at MAN actually, this would create a whirlpool of competition between EZY, WW and JET2, would be great for MAN's prospects in the long-term. MAN has a much larger catchment area than Liverpool JL which would be a incentive for EZY to move to MAN, and with WW stuttering at the moment this would increase the opportunity.
