Identify & Find A/Cs In Photo, If You Can. . .

Wed Dec 01, 2004 6:26 am

I'm bored, so how about a bit of game chaps?

Are your eyes trained to spot what the experts can spot?

Okay, I had one of these last week that, in the end, some a.netters were still not in agreement on what the true identity of a DL a/c was in the background.

This time, it's a bit different. Two things:

1. In this photo, the photographer says there are 10 Tridents. I can only find nine. I say nine because the a/c above G-AWZP is actually a BAC-111. Yes, that's my guess. You agree?

2. Find the "nine" Tridents. Can't? Look again.

What do you see?

I see nine as well with the 9th one being a small portion of the tailplane in lower left corner in addition to the TWA 707 and rear of a BA L1011 upper right corner and the BA 111 mixed with Tridents at the terminal.

I also see 9 tridents, one TWA 707, one BA L-1011, and one BAC 1-11.

That one's a really tough one to pick out. Are we sure that's a Trident...?

I see a possible nine tridents if the nose sticking out from behind the building is a Trident, but it could be a 1-11. I also see a 1-11 in trident line up, a 707 on runway & a L.1011 rear top right.

Its definately a Trident in that left bottom corner look at the angle of the tail plane cone it slopes downward look at it vs one of the other tridents. The 111 tail plane cone does'nt slope downwards.

Great reminder of happy days spotting from T1 in the 70's (yes you could see this view from the public side). A typical days spotting from the Queens Building top deck would have included such gems as:

BA VC-10's, Concorde, 741's, Viscounts and Vanguards
Pan Am & TWA 70's & 74's
DC-8's from Air Canada, KLM, Swissair
DC-10's from Air Ziaire, MAS, ANZ and SIA if I remember rightly
Gulf Air VC-10's and their lovely L1011's
Tupolevs and Ilyshins from Aeroflot, LOT, Malev, CSA (OK Jet), Balkan
Tarom 1-11's
Air France & Finnair Caravelle's
MEA & TMA 707's and 720's
Many long gone carriers including Seeboard World, Flying Tigersa and East African

Happy days!
