Best European

what is your favourite european airport ?? There are a lot of differences accross Europe, and we don't avoid, the old ones, the new ones but still not perfect, the ones under renovation and not friendly at all....

I don't like Heathrow, too busy, too complicated, Gatwick beurk, Gardermoen (Oslo) is one the newest and nicest but far from the city, CDG...just OK for the newest terminals, Munich airport very modern but too stretched, too much to walk...Madrid, too packed, although the newest section looks nice...The list could go on and on and on...

OK, the one I prefer...Not the airport itself, but I like the new terminal at CDG, where American gates are located, new and modern, cosy and quiet...Relax...

Ah...and I forgot Schiphol-Amsterdam...I got stuck there with kids 9Hrs...Very convenient...One of the best also...

I belive Oslo (OSL) has one of the best airport buildings. However there are not many international airlines serving the airport...(Iran air, PIA..)

Stockholm (ARN) have the same distance to the city center as the airport in Oslo has, however there are more traffic to ARN. The terminal buildings is nevertheless not in the same class as in Oslo.

Copenhagen (Kastrup) has many international routes and is definitely the largest hub in Scandinavia (even though ARN is closing in..)

Gatwick is among the nicest I've been at, so is Copenhagen. Heathrow is a mess but THE place to see every imaginable plane and airline, so I gotta love it. Helsinki, my home apt, is very good in many senses, though it could use some more intercontinental traffic.

Not that I've been to even half the airports in Europe (yet) but:

London Stansted - Designed by Sir Norman Foster. Best viewed at night, when the whole building glows like a crystal in the flat Essex countryside. The airport itself is always a nice place to pass through as a pax.

Also enjoyed the 'urban' airport in the centre of Berlin - is it Templehoff??

I agree for Heathrow in term of being a place to be to see aircrafts.I was thinking more in term of the airport facility itself.

Talking about airports/aircrafts, you don't always need big airports to see interesting aircrafts. I used to have an office with a window facing Maastricht airport (holland) and this airport sees a lot of of interesting aircrafts. Russian planes, 707 from Royal Jordanian, very old aircrafts from bulgarian airline (forgot the name..)...Quite interesting to see these Antonov taking off and landing in what is a quite small airport.

Also Shannon is an interesting airport, it has historic ties with Aeroflot, so we can see interesting aircrafts there and also some airlines use this aiport to do some training or maintenance checks I believe (you could see some Concorde from Air France looping there, taking off and landing...)

Heathrow is the best for seeing aircraft, Stansted looks beautiful. Zurich is another followed closely by Copenhagen.

Teahan is right. But Zurich is not anymore as good as it was a few years a go. But it will improve again. They started to build a new terminal, airside center and a people-mover. I think at the end of 2002 Zurich will belong again to one of best airports in Europa and the world.

I agree. Anyway did you check out there Airport 2000 exhibit in Terminal B. It is great. The best place to spot is at the end of the runaway.

I've said it many times before and I'll say it again. Frankfurt is the best airport in Europe. Not even a UK airport can beat it's ease of use, and centrality. This is how simple FRA is. Terminal 1:Lufthansa, Star (ofcourse there are plenty of exceptions), Terminal 2: all other airlines. Not being German, and having only passed through there once, I can only comment on what I've observed. Not to mention the Observation Decks offer almost un-paralleled views. T1 and T2 are distant in realtion, but the Sky Bahn centralizes the airport. And the train station is right under the terminal, making the city centre only 20 min away.

I guess, you've done BOS-FRA on Lufthansa too often :-)...
I was at Frankfurt airport two weeks ago and was not that impressed...It's about time they renovate the interior which what they are doing I guess..I did not have time to check the deck.
