Fri Dec 03, 2004 2:03 am

NW is adding PIT and YYZ to MKE with 2 daily RJ beginning Feb 1..

see http://biz.yahoo.com/prnews/041202/cgth041_1.html

So how many different airlines is NW going to attack? Seems like TZ, YX, and DH are on their radar.. boy, when they go for the thorat, they go to kill!

NW sure is expanding in a good way. How are the loads for NW out of MKE?

ERJ,

Oh please it has NOTHING to do with the "kill" as you state. MKE has the highest amount of Elite passengers next to our hubs, so that is why MKE is seeing the increase.

MKE, IND, GRR, are all part of the Heart Land program...that has been reviewed and planned well before the problems at those carriers you mention.

This is getting so old! IT'S CALLED BUSINESS!!!!! NWA is just implementing plans they've had for a long time. NWA is just doing what it needs to do to SURVIVE!!! The "heartland" is where NWA suceeds domesticly... why shouldn't they attempt to use resources they have to make money? Why isn't anyone complaining about Southwests moves in MDW? Oh, that's right... IT'S BUSINESS!!

BTW - the heartland markets are: Milwaukee, Indianapolis, Green Bay, Omaha, Madison, Grand Rapids and Kalamazoo.

FINALLY, we get the answer. Kalamazoo??? The others I can see. Wonder if we'll see OMA-LGA or MSN-LGA, etc. flights.

No jabs were made.. it was a joke statement. there is way too much sensitivity over the airline industry. Everybody knows NW does what it does for sound financial reasons. Everybody knows that airlines do what they do to maintain and increase their business. There is no need for such sensitivity over this issue. And there shouldn't be anyone that should be offended by that light-hearted joke. But, I'm through with it anyway..

It's interesting that NW has (non-mainline) competition on both of these routes. I suppose if they are counting on loyal elites, it won't matter, but AC certainly has an advantage on YYZ as they can offer significant connecting opportunities there.

Well, AC can offer tons of connections through YYZ, sure, but don't forget that NW flies to YXU and YOW from DTW; to YXE, YQT, YVR, YQR, YWG, and YEG from MSP; and to YUL (and YYZ) from both hubs. Granted, the frequency is lacking, but I'm not sure there's really that much demand for travel between Milwaukee and Saskatoon. Besides, MKE-MSP-YVR/YYC/YQR/etc. is a lot more pleasant than backtracking through YYZ.

Gotta be either SEA, LAX, or CHI... my money's on SEA but only because I don't believe NW would combine the statistics from both ORD and MDW.

When did NW start the MKE focus? It seems that IND, started less than 2 months ago is already bigger than MKE!  Big grin

7E72004, straight from the article...

"When the new flights begin in February, Northwest's Milwaukee schedule will include up to 36 flights a day with service to 16 nonstop destinations, up from 16 flights a day to three nonstop destinations in June 2003."

...and probably more telling...

"Northwest has announced expansions of its Milwaukee schedule on five occasions during the past 19 months including twice in 2003 and three times in 2004."
