Fort Collins/Loveland Airport

Fri Dec 03, 2004 4:09 pm

What is Fort Collins/Loveland airport like? It looks rather smallish, which surprises me considering Allegiant has commercial service to LAS from there. Do they have gates or stairs to deplane? I am surprised such a small airport has commercial service, although I can understand it being a nice alternative to the busy DIA.

No gates at all and just one tiny terminal building. I think the aircraft has to use its airstairs to deplane and the passengers walk across the ramp to the terminal hut.

Good old FNL. I remenber shooting touch 'n go's there way back when. You could smell the pig crap from 8000 ft. Back then they actually had some sort of scheduled United Express service (not sure, but I think it was Mesa).
God I love the smell of avgas in the morning!!!

They use portable truck mounted stairs to deplanethe terminal building is literally the size of a convenience store...and they use one of those portable trailers/temporary buildings as a lounge past the security checkpoint...I made the trek up to FNL last year to see the Allegiant MD-80, so these pics might interest you... photo:

I remember flying into Fort Collins on a United Express flight years ago. It seemed then that 19 people were crowding the terminal. How often does Allegiant fly in and out of there anyways?

Indeed, UAX served FNL with B1900s in the 1990's mainly.

during the warmer times, you can even see skydivers, not terribly common at an airport with commercial service.

Allegiant serves FNL 1 flight a day, every day except Tuesday and Saturday. They have actually been talking about expanding the runway just for Allegiant Air as they are restricted in the summer due to the elevation.

I was at Mesa/United Express when we started the FNL service. I remember a unique aspect of the station were it's "free flights". If a pax was connecting to UA mainline at DEN, there was no additional charge to fly from FNL. This was when CO and UA were still battling it out at DEN, and UA was hunting additional feed.
