Beap To Announce New BRU Based Airline Today

Fri Dec 03, 2004 8:49 pm

According to business TV channel Canal Z / Kanaal Z last evening's news (broadcasted until tonight 8:30p when today's newsreel will take over with hopefully more details, watch online at ) and to BEAP's website (), the Belgian Employees Aviation Promotion, announcement will be made at a press conference today over the launch of a new BRU based airline by BEAP Holding SA.

Does anybody have any kind of details on what we're talking about here? Fleet, network, reality, anything?

Probabely another one of Erick de Vliegers "Exels" companies - maybe Belgiumexel - instead of transporting cocaine to Holland they transport it to Brussels...( was ment to be a joke..)
it wouldn't be feasable to set up an intercontinental airline in Brussels without feeder infrastructure.Since the company would be operating out of Zaventem,I assume the core business would be caraibes, african and US destinations...

Destinations: West Africa, Lomé for sure, + a couple of other destinations
Reality: seems serious, the project is in the air since 2000

Project is in the air since 02/2002. BEAP was formed by former Sabena family members. As for BelgiumExel, it's already flying! And maybe not only plane language flying  Smile

More input! More input! More input!

Cedars, navré but I maintain: since 2000, before BEAP existed, but by the very same people.

The "first phase" of the project makes sense...

For the dutch speaking members here:

SNBA telt 15 bestemmingen in Afrika.

In short:

first flight 23/12/2004

Bases: Brussels and Lome

Employees: 350 within 3 years

Airplane: start with a 767-200 from Excel, 4 own airplanes by next year

Capital: 25 million euro

Objective: help to find jobs for as many as possible unemployed ex Sabena employees. The legacy of SN will continue, espacially on the African continent wher SABENA was known and loved. Air France and SNBA watch out!!!

incredible achievment, lets hope it works out!!!

Permit me to be skeptic.

25.000.000 € ? When so many airlines go bankrupt because of lack of capital assets !!!???

Eric De Vlieger ?? The "chipotteur" who comes and puts his nose in the Belgian business, while contested in Netherlands.

What feeding ?? How will they fill up their planes ? With Belgians ? I have many doubt...

The objective, as it is stated on the web (...to find jobs for ex-SN and ex-CB personel) is perfectly understandable but IMO does not fare well in the eyes of would be investors or partners. They better make it less visible and emphasize the commercial aspect.

Without knowing the fine details, this association has soon after the demise of SN assessed that SNBr and especially AF do enjoy a quasi-monopoly on several Eur-W Afr routes, supposedly high yield/high load destinations.

Besides Lomé, Bamako and perhaps Ouagadougou and Niamey come to mind. But does this make a lot of sense out of BRU ??

If plans call for 4 new a/c next year, no doubt there is something else in the fridge.

What a joke!

First of all a stupid name for a new airline. Can't the people who were fired just get over it? BRU can't take a big airline, as it is in between AMS and CDG

and second, the first route is to Africa, since when do they have money there to fly?

Maybe it's better to start flying to London and Frankfurt first?

KL911,

Did I miss something, what is that supposed to be 'stupid name', I think it has been said that a decision on the name will be taken later.
Flying to FRA or LHR would be a killer for a new airline, LHR is already over served from BRU and FRA has 9 daily non stop flights on LH. Even FR had to pull out of London (STN), altough they're tickets were virtually free.
Air France and SNBA happen to make a lot of money on their African flights. It makes perfectly sense to fly to Africa, wether there is room for another airline from BRU to Africa is a different question. Perhaps they could code share with SNBA on European feeder flights and SNBA could code share on their African flights, provided that they serve different destinations ofcourse.
If the Netherlands with 15 million people or so can handle a big airline such as KLM, so can Belgium. There might be only 10 million people in Belgium, but the catchement area is so much bigger as it includes a large part of the south of Holland, North of France, West of Germany and Luxermburg. All it takes is a good bussines plan and a clever management, not a noble cause to help ex-Sabeniens to find a job, but to help investors to make money;
Nevertheless good luck to them.

On a different note, BIAC is advertising new direct flights from BRU to HKT, anyone know who is operating these flights and how frequent they will be?

Those are charter flights operated by Belgium/Holland Exell on behalf of Thomas Cook.

Routing is BRU-GOA-HKT-GOA-BRU with 763ER.
