This post is an interesting juxtaposition with the other post about U's impending liquidation. U has a very long way to go, but the game isn't over by any stretch of the imagination.

Not so fast chief.

If the judge doesn't throw out the labor contracts, the party ends in January.

Plus they've still got the IAM. The IAM is in no mood to cooperate right now.

If US Airways goes down, that'll be major airline #2 that the IAM helped to kill. I've always wanted to fly US Airways, but the flights I wanted to take were well out of my price range. The funny thing is that a ticket on a US Airways flight that is a codeshare flight operated by United is higher than if you booked the same ticket for that flight under the UA #. You would honestly think that they would be very similar in price. I even looked at booking a flight for five months from now and they claim that there are no seats available, which could be the truth if they start selling off stuff after Christmas.

So the truth on the contract negotiating side is:
APA- agreed
CWA- agreed
smaller unions i.e. sim operators, etc...- agreed
AFA- in talks
IAM- not yet.
anything I'm missing? A lot of people around school here in Charlotte are worried about US, and they're coming to me for news Smile

After my experiences with them last week, at least on the Express side, the people working for US at philly aren't worth more than minimum wage anyhow...they're a disgraceful lot and deserve to be paid as such. I get better service and more common courtesy from my garbageman.

I wish all the productive and good employees well, but honestly I won't shed a tear when US Airways folds up. It will only serve to make the airlines I like (CO, DL, NW, DH) stronger....
