Underserved Yet Profitable Routes

Sun Dec 05, 2004 9:15 am

All of us as armchair CEOs love to guess routes or suggest routes that any particular airline could or should run. Anyone have any new ideas? With DL matching DH on alot of P2P routes ie. TPA-TYS, TPA-GSP, ect. any routes in markets such as these that anyone think could be potential gold mines to operate, even if it does mean building the market with RJ's until demand stimulates the use of say a 737 or 319-320?

Great post. Wow, wonder if you work at FlyI by any chance?

Looks like a probe out there for your company if I had to guess. The fact that you are using A.net for destination suggestions is certainly not a good sign.

FLYiBaby-
Nice to see my bretheren bringining up good questions  Big grin ....I work in the Customer Solutions Center, and I get to see the res. numbers all day long. The flights are DEFINATELY picking up. The fares are low, but everything I hear from people in TYS and TPA, they don't know about us...but when they do fly, THEY LOVE US!! And I take a lot of calls. I don't think we'll see a 319 there yet. It would make more sense to have lots of flight (although more expensive, but it'd we'd have a LOT of flights, therefore, people would like that...I believe.

Cheers,

ORD747CLE,

Haha..no. I don't do any more than I am paid to do for my company. I am just one of the lowly airport people!  Smile I'm just curious based on any airlines out there. For example, RDU-SJC was a great route for Midway orginally because of the RTP-Silicon Valley connection and was actually subsidized by Cisco and HP until the economic bust in 2001.
Alaska makes money hand over fist in the SEA-PSP market albeit a seasonal one. I know that the top guys as FLYI already know where they plan to fly to, and I won't find out until it goes public due to the fact it is a publicly traded company, and thats fair.

ANCflyer, won't AS have the range on the 737-800 to offer that ANC-HNL one day? I know they usually ask the Alaska MVP Gold passengers where they would like to see AS fly before they decide on any particular route, and that seems to be an awsome way to treat your best passengers.

GMUAirbusA320,
Cool to note a fellow employee, even though I didn't intend to bring up any DH issues!  Smile
