I wonder if that passenger will have to write apology letters to each of the passengers and write a 5-6pg. paper about how dumping fuel hurts the environment and the impact it has.....

Hope s/he is ok.

Thanks again.

It was definitely a heavy landing, yes.

The Boeing 757 does not feature a fuel dump subsystem. You may have flown around for a while to burn off a little fuel.

Just a bit off topic question....Nwaclc , you said that the 330 does not have the ability to dump fuel. Considering this is a rather LARGE aircraft...what would happen, if on takeoff they had an engine out????....how would it be possible to land such a big plane....with ONE engine...fully ladien with fuel?....do they fly around on one engine for hours to burn fuel...or destroy the landing gear???....any input would be apreicated-J

It's correct. NWA's A330s are certified w/o fueldump valves. They are considered 'extra equipment' and would have brought up the cost of the aircraft. NWA chose to order the aircraft without these valves. I read this in a technical forum somewhere - don't remember the site ...

This one was a medical emergency (read the post #1). So, unless the a/c had "a severe headache" we cannot say it was NWA A330's problem Big grin

NW's A330s, in fact most if not all A330s, don't have a fuel dump system. Its pretty simple.

LN-MOW, just ignore Solnabos comments, he is just a little irate that something negative happened involving an Airbus.

LOL .. no I don't take a comment from Solnabo seriously. His level of intelligent contribution on this forum doesn't deserve it.

But I know what I read and Gigneil confirmed it.

boy this is getting interesting.......ok so seeing that theres no fuel dump on a 330...could anyone estimate the possible seniero of engine out on takeoff....and how the crew might deal with it?.....were talking fully loaded 330 ....struggling to gain altitude...cant dump fuel. just wondering

Air Transat has a fuel dumping system on thier A330's. I joke about this only because no one was hurt in that near disaster.

I know that the US Airways A330-300s can't dump fuel either.

Pulled the info up off of the crew system..... Times are:
Departed Sea- 1243 local
Arrived ANC- 1812 local
Departed ANC- 1920 local
Arrived NRT- 2101 local- Due into NRT @ 1635 local, so about 4 1/2 hours late....

Kindjordan - fueldumping don't take place during t/o, so it is not an issue. The aircraft is designed to reach a safe altitude on one engine if necessary.

An overweight landing is the option should they have to return early. The aircraft will have to go through some checks before it's placed back in traffic, but it's not unsafe to land. The pilots are trained on this.

Jafa,
Not sure Air Transat had a fuel dumping system. The lost the fuel when they tried to transfer fuel with a faulty pump! Instead of transfering the fuel, it emptied all the fuel.

All twin engine planes certified by the FAA or JAA can take off at their maximum MTOW on one engine.

Now I'll have to go try that with MSFS2004 and the 777-300.

With something around 70,000 pounds of thrust per engine, I would sure hope it could.
