Hey there,

Nice to see a thread about my local.

SEN has been given approval by both the CAA and Rochford Council to expand. A new terminal, Visitors center and train station will be built. It is hoped that building work will start in Spring next year, and will hopefully be finished in the summer of 2006.

FlyBe have made there SEN-JER an offical route, and this can now be booked online for as little as £29 return.

It would be great, if FlyBe launched new routes from SEN, I think it has the ability of being a decent little regional airport - that can compete with London City, the only problem is the distance from London. Even though the airport is actually called London Southend!

I'm an ex-local... rather than a "new railway link", I guess it would be a station between Rochford and Prittlewell, which would then make the distance between the three stations rather short!

Now, a BRS to SEN flight would be nice...!

Nice to hear! I was at SEN in March to visit the parked 707s, F27s etc. What is currently stored/parked at SEN? Any 1-11s?

Cheers,
Tom

Nice to see SEN expanding. A 6th London airport!

Simon - I read in Airliner World a while back an article about SEN, where they said there were problems with runway extension/ILS and a church at one end of the runway. Have they made any progress in this area?

Currently there is one BAC 1-11:

Which is in for refurbishment work.

SAT Sakhalin Airlines (Russian Federation)">HZ-123 is still at the airport, no news to wether it will go again. Im not going to raise my hopes up. Although, it would be nice to see it take off!

As far as I know, the runway extension has been put on hold. Instead, they have built a new run off area with state of the art crash barriers to stop cars going past the threshold when a plane is arriving/departing.
