First MyTravel Airways A330 In New Colours

Wed Dec 08, 2004 5:24 am

Hi,

The first MyTravel Airways A330-200 - G-OMYT, has been painted in the new livery.

Here is the first shot courtesy of Plane Pictures:

MyTravel A330

I think it is the best looking A330 in the skies! It even beats Thomas Cook!  Big thumbs up

Great to see them paint the aircraft, But...i thought they where going soooon  Sad

Shouldn't they be useing there money on different things than painting planes?

Nice though..Don't get me wrong.

Hi,

European

There is no longer a financial situation at MyTravel unlike many of the UKs other charter airlines!

Miamix707

MyTravel have 4 A330-200s and 3 A330-300s plus C-FRAV from Skyservice.

thanks ThomasCook, I appreciate the info.

They're also still using the 767-300 to some of their flights to Sanford. I thought those were to have been retired by November? No chance those will get the new c/s probably. How about their last DC-10?

About bloody time! It looks very nice, but I got to admit I still love and miss the old AIH livery. I'm not really a huge fan of the MYT rebranding exercise in any way!

Hi,

Miamix

The 767s are being phased during the winter and the last remaining DC-10 - G-BYDA, is now parked in storage at MAN void of titles awaiting its sale to MNG in Turkey.

BFS

We just need Monarch to paint their A330s now!

Thomas Cook

What other UK charter airlines are in difficulty? I hadn't heard anythin about this? FCA are very stable, TCM I thought were alright and Excel just had a huge cash injection when Libra sold their stake.

Thanks

Hi,

7LBAC111

Britannia/Thomsonfly.com or TUI UK are still not making profits and Thomas Cook continue to operate at a loss.

Isn't the UK arm of Thomas Cook profitable? I'm sure I've read it's the German side of the company which is making a loss?

It looks very impressive, I couldn't speak there for over a minute. I'm looking forward to catching it on camera.

Monarch should not paint those A330's, they look superb in their current livery.

Its the My Travel Group that had problems, the airline has been making a profit for months.

Anyway, Great to see an A330 in the full colours finally.

Hi,

Thomas Cook Group made a net loss 253 Euros in the last fiscal year and missed its targets to halve its net losses. They hope to be able to cut losses further by next year.

Hmmm... the A332 looks a bit lardy in the new colours... still, at least MyTravel are getting there in terms of having a single colourscheme!

What's the current situation with regard to the Britannia/Thomson/Thomsonfly TUI group? Are Britannia/Thomsonfly.com going to be merged into the Coventry operation at all?

And ThomasCook, I assume that you meant a net loss of €253m last year for the Thomas Cook group?  Big grin As Demoose said, is it the German arm that's dragging the whole group down at the moment, or are they still struggling across the board?

Finally!! Well done MyTravel!! Looks weird, like a blown up A320 lol I'll have to see it in person to come to terms with it.

I think Demoose is right, its the German side that's pulling the Thomas Cook group down

Monarch are currently repainting all their aircraft one by one, G-MPCD (A320), G-OJEG (A321), G-DAJB (757) and G-MONJ (757) have currently been repainted. So it shouldn't be too long before the A330's get their turn in the paintshop.

Indeed they do. I actualy preferred the colors that Airtours used in the mid-90's, before they did the update on the tail and titles. The good thing about the present MyTravel look is that it's orange, not many jets have that color nowadays, and it's not another boring eurowhite, thank God Big grin The livery to me looks better on the 757.

Some UK airlines I think have made a bad choice rebranding. Air 2000 to First Choice, good name but the color scheme.. I don't know, the paint-splatter logo they have.. what the heck does that mean anyways.

Britannia to this TUi-Thomsonfly.com branding is not a pretty sight, and the name, not much better.

Paint-Splatter LOL!! Its a starfish, the colour scheme is great love it!

I agree Thomsonfly.com is a no!! Britannia is a good name. The Thomsonfly livery is bad, especially with those white engines!!

Have they started a new service to Rio or is there another reason why one of their A330-200s has just arrived in the database?

Still looking forward to seeing G-OMYT in person in the near future  Smile

Today, Dec 10 flight 47 went to SFB with an A332, it came from Gatwick.

So if the plane was at Manchester then I guess this one today was old c/s, but the weather was a kind of crappy anyways so I didn't bother to drive over to Sanford.

"For those hoping to see A330 G-OMYT in all its fresh paint glory its being based out of CPH for a month so im told after appearing at MAN yesterday" (Dopson, P 10th December 2004)

If true, I hope this helps

I've just heard the same, that takes the mick bigtime  Insane It seems pretty dumb of My Travel to paint an aircraft a couple of days/weeks before a C check. If they'd of had any sense they should of done it after the C check...

Dale,
A C-check doesn't require the aircraft to be stripped of paint, so it doesn't matter whether it is repainted before or after a hangar check.

It's a big myth that maintenance and repainting are somehow connected - only on the most major checks will an aircraft require the paint to be stripped - which happen about every 8 years.

Aircraft are repainted every 3-5 years depending on the operator and the condition of the paintwork - usually totally independent of maintenance.

Most UK carriers have contracts for repainting aircraft in Norwich, Shannon or Maastricht - so it is virtually impossible for them to tie up a C check in Manchester with a respray in Norwich!

I understand that a C check and a repaint are two completely different things and don't happen at the same time. I meant it was pretty dissapointing to us spotters and photographers, also pointless of My Travel to paint her up then not show off the new scheme on the '330 by putting her in a hanger for a month.

So what's the deal with another MYT332 I saw at MAN the other day wearing Garuda Indonesia colours? She must be doing what the 763's usually do, shame really.

If it was Garuda colors, I don't think they have A332s, but 333s. Are you sure it's flying for MYT?? Could someone confirm if this one will be doing any of the SFB flights? Covering for G-OMYT?

Probably get paid more for leasing a 332 to Garuda than they would with a 763. And as you know, MYT could do with the money

Hi,

The aircraft being leased to Garuda are for the Hajj period and are from MyTravel Airways A/S. They operate 3 A330-300s and are leasing these to Garuda. To substitute this, G-OMYT and others will join the Scandanavian fleet for a month or so. The aircraft at Manchester was OY-VKH.

GKirk

I wouldn't say that they 'could do with the money' anymore. They expect to be in profit by next year.

No problem MYT332  Big grin !

Your right about not seeing many 300s! I think the only A330-300s we see regularly at MAN are from US Airways. We have a regular visitor for the winter at the moment though - C-FRAV of Sky Service. Its flying for MyTravel until the summer I believe.
