Cabo Verde Flights

Wed Dec 08, 2004 7:02 pm

Hi, I am planning a holiday trip to Cabo Verde in late December. We should be staying at Sal Island. Question: are there regular flights to other locations? Which companies operate inter-islands? Aircraft types? What about safety issues? Your experiences? All tips welcome. Carlos

TACV may have intra-islands flights.

TAP Air Portugal is said to be flying to Sal daily from LIS using A321.

TACV has scheduled flights to MUC,LPA and other European points using B733s and B752s.

Airlines like Air Senegal, Air Mauretania, may be linking the island to the western coasts of Africa.

NEOS flies charter to Sal, direct from Italy, using B738s.

Condor flies charter to Sal, direct or with a stop in Dakar.

The best options are:

1. Fly Cabo Verde Airlines (TACV). They operate regular scheduled flights with the 767 to LIS (daily), MUC (2 x week), CDG (1 x week), MAD (1 x week) and AMS (2 x week). TACV is a reliable airline with a reasonable service.

If you live in Belgium, you could go by train to AMS and then fly with TACV. You could phone their office directly to get a good promotional ticket:

TACV Cabo Verde Airlines
Phone: +31 (0)10 411 5411

Interesting fact: the only destination served by TACV outside Africa and Europe is FOR in Brazil!

2. TAP Air Portugal is the second option. They have daily flights to Sal Islands, connecting in LIS. You could depart from Belgium, and TAP has a cooperation agreement with SN Brussels. The good thing is that you may book your ticket on the internet, and they have very good fares (about EUR 680):

Enjoy Cape Verde!

Other possibility to get there is from DKR to RAI (Praia) the capital city of Cabo Verde with TACV ATR. This airline is also operating quite network within the islands - several daily connections to SID and other destinations. If I m not mistaken also Air Senegal International (V7) is operating DKR-RAI using their single DHC8-300 3 times a week.
just fly - it is nice

I went to Cape Verde (Sao Vicente) by ship in October- had a great time- islands are simply stunning, weather was great and the people there are wonderful.

Have a great trip.

Hi Carlos.

You could try to book a flight departing from Amsterdam, but the problem is that the flights are usually full, I think most of the times even overbooked because of the big Cape-Verdian community here in Holland. This could be a problem if you want to book a flight for december. TAP at the other side, flies daily to Ilha do Sal, so you might have a better chance to find a seat if you
don't mind to fly to Lisbon first. Paris could be an option for you too.
The inter-island flights by TACV are operated by a couple of ATR-42's they have.

And I also found a picture of this Cabo Verde Express Let, but I know nothing about them to be honest.

About my experiences, I went there in 1988 since my father is from the Islands. Back then they didn't have those ATR's flying around, so I remember the flight we took from Ilha do Sal to São Nicolau island was operated by a scary little old plane. Im pretty secure that you shouldn't worry much about the safety issues now.
