Bad Service On Turkish Airlines

Has anyone else had bad service on Turkish Airlines. I ended up flying them from Chicago to Delhi earlier this year and just had horrible service both going in and coming out. Rude Flight attendants, old cranky planes and mediocre food. Also on the way back, they dumped us in Istanbul as the ongoing flight had already left.
On the way back the flight was through JFK. Luggage was nowhere to be found. My brother came back from Delhi..same route a week later and same experience. Was this just an isolated experience or have other people had similar experience.

Have flown Turkish Airlines many times and actually have found the service just fine in both Economy and Business classes. The new Istanbul terminal is also quite nice making transit connections pretty painless.

Regarding aircraft, THY has one of more modern fleets, with many new Airbus and Boeing aircraft. Dont know what specific aircraft you were on during your journey, however atleast for the Atlantic portion you flew their Airbus A340s which were delivered between 1993-2000.

I suppose each airline has its good and bad days.

I flew Turkish Airlines many times and find that they improve every time. While many traditional flag carriers are becoming to look more like LCC´s, Turkish is one of those that is climbing up the ladder.

Having said that, it´s always possible to have a bad experience flying with any airline.

I've flown them twice, and I noticed some "ups and downs".
The seats were leather.
Food was as expected in economy.
The flight attendants behaved rather "strange", I don't why, but I do get the feeling that I'm not visible for the FA. When delivering the tray's they keep talking to each other like the passengers are not there. The talk loudly to eachother, and in some cases it sounds like they are arguing.

I've flown them BKK-IST: mediocre service, but they were efficient and I would fly them again.

I've flown them twice as well. If the service, IFE, catering, seat comfortable & cabin crew (Very limited English) compare with Asian carrier, they have long way to go.

I flew them this year from BRU-IST-PEK-IST-BRU and service was terrible! The B737-800s were nice and clean, the A340s to and from PEK felt very used. No individual IFE (it was expected though) and rather bad food. What really shocked me was the very obnoxios attitude of ALMOST EVERY SINGLE F/A on EACH of my four flights. They clearly showed no respect for the passengers, sighing at every request and litteraly discharging the food trays on the tables.

So, from my personnal experience, if there is something to improve it would be have to be the F/As attitudes.

I flew them very recently and found the service and aircraft condition rather mediocre. I was on a 737-400 for both segments of the trip. Nothing terrible occurred but there was nothing about the flight that impressed me either. On the other hand, I really enjoyed flying into Istanbul. Great collection of planes to view on the tarmac.

I flew from FRA to VIE on TK 916, a DC-7B, in the late sixties. The airplane's Eastern Air Lines interior was immaculate. A nice turkey dinner was served. However, a male and female flight attendant were making out in one of the seat rows behind the galley. When I was walking back to the lounge in the tail, I passed them, and one of them looked up at me and winked. By the way, there were very few passengers, and nobody was sitting in the rear of the aircraft.

I flew Turkish Airlines TLV-IST-TLV 2 years ago (5-9/12/2002) with B737-800, and it was great.

The food was exellent, the FAs were very kind and the jet was new and clean.

seeing as i will start flying for TK soon i wanna post some stuff.
There is no excuse for a rude flight attendant...however i can tell you that for the last year there has been a massive shortage of pilots and FAs...while that is not an excuse to be rude, these people, many of whom are my friends, have been working double time...it's not easy, because in Europe, there are no overnight stays..back to base for another round in the morning. The new hire pilots and FAs will hopefully soothe things out so that people feel more welcome onboard.

As for the food...well at least u get some food...in the states, you have to buy your drinks and well, it's as much the airline as the catering company so...we gotta deal with what we get. In the states i believe it's 3-4 bucks for a drink...and there is almost no meal service on flights nearing 3 hours. Although it's a time and season thing, the food i have found is sometimes very nice.

The 737-800s ands A320/321s are quite nice, however, we have some very old run down A340s...they are all getting a new interior once the A330s arrive so that they can be taken offline to get a quick job. Each seat will have a video etc...so things are looking good.

As with any airline everyone wishes to encounter the best service, however this isnt humanly possible... I do hope that the service and understanding of customer service improves, from the new people i met at the training center, the new group of FAs seem more with the whole industry, if ya get what i mean...
The only time there is too much fuel onboard, is when you're on fire!

I flew TK at several occasions.

Once in '98 on a BRU-(734)-IST-(343)-BKK and back. The service and cabins were ok. It is true that they're not a top notch airline but you get your money's worth.

Later I flew with them on BRU-IST-BEY and back. All segments operated with either 734, 738 or 313. Again the service was comparable to the previous experience. Your money's worth. I would obviously not pick TK to fly Business class (paying that is) unless they were the only alternative.

I heard that in recent years they had some salary disputes and reductions for the F/A's and although that doesn't excuse anything, let's all try to picture out how we would feel to see our net income suddenly being cut by say 20%.

We're keeping away from TK mainly because the stopover time on our particular favorite route (BRU-BEY) is rather lengthy at IST. They have a very rewarding frequent flyer program (Europe and Near East are in the same reward zone!) where you need only 5 return trips BRU-BEY to get 1 free!

Just a little correction : not a single US airline charges for non-alcoholic drinks in the USA (they charge for wine/beer/spirits and some charge for snacks).

However, in Europe, several carriers charge for all drinks, incl. water on shorthaul flights (LX, IB, OS, EI + FR, U2 etc...)

Was on a flight from Germany to Cyprus and back, FRA-IST-GEC-IST-FRA two years ago. A/C were 343 and 734, all 8/9 years old at the time, except for one of the 340s which had just been delivered.

I found the onboard service impeccable, but things were pretty chaotic and disorganised when GEC-IST was delayed.

I found the lack of a security check at Gecitkale a bit disturbing...

TO: Pilotaydin

My friends told me that all Turkish staff (Turkish People) getting additional 01 month bouns for every 3 months (16 months salary per year). But outstation local employee with nothing bonus. If the crew overnight in out station will get around 50 USD per day but when out station local people attend any training in IST will get 1-2 USD per day for transportation, food.........(repeat 1-2 USD).

Out station local employee with no overtime payment, poor benifits and lower salary if compare with Turkish employee of the same title, she belive working hours would not less than those Turkish cabin crew and pilot.

This is no reason to provide bad service because of their heavy working load, hours or payment cut.

Just dont understand what they want.....
