A380 Needed On Kangaroo Route NOW

Thu Dec 09, 2004 6:47 pm

Hi all

I've just been with my travel agent trying to get from Brisbane to Gothenburg (GOT) sometime around the 5-8 of January, and its just impossible.

Id like to go thru either SIN BKK or KUL because i want to meet a friend backpacking thru the area on the way.... my goal was to make it to GOT before about the 10th of Jan in order to catch up with a group of friends meeting in Sweden at this time.

It was impossible. I tried, QF, BA, SAS, SIA, THAI, MAS, AF, Finnair, Lufthansa, Austrian/Lauda, etc etc etc, and NOT ONE ECONOMY SEAT for days and days around that those dates.

If anybody out there knows how i could somehow achieve it (getting to GOT via southeast asia before the 10th of Jan,) Id really like to know. But i think it shows, the A380 is needed NOW!

What is the cheapest business class fare on the route? If you need to be in GOT by the 10 Janurary then your going to have to go in business class.

the A380 is needed NOW!
Would the A380 solve the kangaroo routes problems because only two airlines (I think) that fly the route have ordered the A380.

Lufthansa,

There are just so many airlines competiting on the Australia-Europe routes, you must be able to get there somehow! Even if it means via US West Coast! Have you considered BNE-SYD-LAX-FRA-GOT?

You could try via Japan also, which is often the answer to my staff travel difficulties in Australia: BNE-NRT-FRA-GOT or BNE-NRT-CDG-GOT?

Good luck!

Lufthansa

Is it really necessary to go via Asia? What I mean is that you can go via the US and still get to GOT

Can't you even get to London or any of the big cities in Europe? I mean there are quite a lot of connections from here to cities around in Europe, and all of them can hardly be full.

There's nothing like planning in advance!
With the greatest respect, did you REALLY expect there to be availability?

Have you tried Royal Brunei via Frankfurt, might be able to juggle SIN, BKK or KUL in there some how?

What about both EK & GF who fly via SIN?

Or Grauda, who are now code sharing KUL-Europe with MH?

QF to BOM then somebody to Europe?

Has QR started services to MEL yet, get acheap connection on DJ?

Other than that, forget about SE Asia? That opens posiabilities via Japan, Canada & the US (assuming you qualify for visa wavier)?

SA/QF code share to JNB then SA to Europe?

AR or LA to S. America, then Europe?

For what its worth I got two mixed class seats just two weeks ago via QF Y class to NRT, then SK J class to CPH & MAD. Was just about the last thing available then, so GOOD LUCK.

SYD/MEL/BNE - SIN/KUL/BKK is ALWAYS a bitch in Dec/Jan
The SOONER we see the A380 the BETTER !!!!!!!!

You could consider EK via DXB (BNE-DXB-FRA/PAR/LON etc..) then on to GOT by another carrier!

777ER

Airlines that fly the whole Kangaroo route that have ordered A380 = 5 firm (QF, SQ, MH, EK & QR) plus Thai is reportrdly ordering 6 if they can sought out a dispute with the EU over chicken meat.

Airlines that fly only as far as SE Asia = 2 (AF, & LH)

Airline that flys non tradational Kangaroo route = 1 (KE)

So I think its fair to say t will have an immediate impact. Will it solve all capacity problems overnight - NO, will it help? - YES a lot.

You could also consider NZ via AKL-LAX/SFO change to LH there or even NZ through to LHR.

One of my dearest friends is going to be somewhere in southeast asia, which is why im trying to go via there.

She's a fricken nutcase. Last week she just walked into the Aeroflot office in Oslo, (just walking down the street mind you) and decided to purchase a ticket to bangkok for 6 weeks there...she goes next week and will work her way around thailand, Malaysia and Indonesia. Mostly thai and Malaysia...so I really need to get to Singapore/KUL/BKK if i want to try and catch her. Its not hard to get a bus from KL to SIN or something.

Otherwise i think i'd jump on UAL.... i wanna go skiing on the way back in utah anyway, because i can ski for free there, and stay with friends so its all cool.

But yeah...thanks for the emirates....the last catch is I can't pay for it until another week and a half.... I get paid several thousand dollars then, but not before then.... so does anybody think Im actually gonna get to GOT? Hell i dont mind even driving from Arlanda...swedish countryside will be nice.

If you can get your own way to SIN, AF have return in Economy for 639GBP, you still have to pay to get to SIN, but surely its cheaper than paying £3,500GBP from Brisbane to GOT on the one ticket!
