What Will Happen To ATR After The -42 And -72?

Fri Dec 10, 2004 6:29 am

The orders for these aircraft have been slowing for quite some time now. I heard something a while back that ATR aren't planning on developing any new aircraft, just upgrades. So what will happen to the production line when the ATR-42 and -72 finally go out of production? Are staff likely to be transferred to Airbus?

Orders may have slowed down, but the used -300/-320s are highly sought after ! You should try and order an ATR42-500 and see how long it will take for you to get it delivered...

I think ATR hit it right by sticking to the ATR-42 and -72, 50 seater that can operate in rough environments and fly in and out of 900m runways... even the F50 can't do that, and don't expect any RJs to do it.

You can expect the ATR42s and 72s production to last for quite some time. If their end comes, the manufacturing staff won't all go airbus, since it's a 50/50 JV between Finmeccanica and EADS... With certain plants and suppliers making certain parts.

However, if the sales staff go to EADS, that wouldn't be a surprise !
