VS Upper Class Suite Question

Sat Dec 11, 2004 7:32 am

I am flying with Virgin Atlantic in 10 days' time in their new suite. I was reading on their website that the cabin crew make up the bed for the passenger- apparently it flips over?

In BA First I am used to recilining my seat to a bed or sitting up as I please. Does this mean that I need to press the call button if I want to change position from the flat bed?

If anyone who has flown the new Upper Class Suite has any other comments to make, I would appreciate it, as I am pretty curious.

Thanks all.

You can control the seat recline and 'bed flip' yourself if you like (the buttons are clearly marked in the Suite). Having the bed 'made up' (ie, the crew pressing the button for you, preparing your bedding and poping a mini hot water bottle in your bed) is just one of the marketing gimmicks.

You are invited to have a nightcap at the bar whilst they make your bed up for you - but you are free to do it yourself. Or, you can let them make it up for you and then switch between bed & seat modes as often as you like (no need for the call button)

Enjoy your flight. I loved it the first time I tried it, and I'm off again myself in 10 days aswell! (LHR-JFK).

Cambrian as Pixux said, you can do it yourself if you want to. I've flown in the suite 3 times already ex JFK and I can tell you - I find it the best seat out there.

BTW you do not have to be fully upright and in the locked position for take off or landing. You can actually be in a reclined position.

I thought the hot water bottle was just a gimmick. Do you only get this if the FA makes up the bed? It would have been nice to abscond with one. Does it say Virgin on the bottle I wonder?

Would be interested in hearing your opinion of the seat.

Thanks for the replies, guys.

Although I love marketing gimmicks, I am glad that I will be able to sleep or not without too much help from the cabin crew.

I am looking forward to comparing it to my BA First flights. If the hype is true, then VS must be doing some serious harm to BA. I am really not a fan of the Club World cabin on the 777- it looks like a hospital!

I will try to write a trip report when I get back.

Hey guys,

Like it's been said, it's just a nice touch that the crew turn your bed down once you've eaten. They do invite you for a night cap at the bar and when you come back your bed is made up with sheets, duvet and full size pillow.

Also you do get a hot water bottle, it's a minature but it's heat activated by pressing a disc inside - but it does work ! It's re-usable aswell.

Also, yes you can take off and land in the fully reclined position.

Thanks again for the replies.

I am so looking forward to that flight and extras like the limo transfer etc for about the same price as a Club World ticket looks like great value.
