Flights Into Tempelhof

Sat Dec 11, 2004 5:44 pm

An inquiry for my European A.net chums...

I'm looking to fly one way from Rome to Berlin on Jan 1 or 2, and I would like to fly into Tempelhof airport if possible. I know SN flies to THF so I went to the SN website and tried to book a one way flight and had some complications. I can book a round trip flight for less than 300 euro in economy, but when I book one way it only lists business fares which are around 700 euros. That's way too expensive for me, I'm just looking to fly economy one way for 200 euros or less.

Thus, my question is twofold. First, does SN offer one way LCC style fares as I thought they did, and secondly if SN isn't going to work is there another carrier that flies from Rome to THF? It's no big deal if THF doesn't work out, then I'll just fly AB, but I always thought THF was a cool airport with a lot of history and I'd like to check it out when I visit Berlin. Thanks, Gracias, Dank, Merci, Grazie...

With the non-LCCs here in Europe, you'll usually not be able to find anything resembling a low oneway fare in Economy Class - the €700 looks about normal for a Rome to Berlin flight on a oneway C-Class ticket...

From your profile, I see that you're a student - have you checked out the student fares offered by some companies? Sometimes oneway fares are available for students, though not through the airline's website.

As alternatives, I suggest you look into Air Berlin or CSA (I know we get quite good oneway-student-fares from them) - I know they offer good oneway fares from Germany to Italy, maybe they'll offer good fares the other way around as well: you won't be flying into THF though...

By the way - you could also try LX: they also fly into THF...

Fly FCO-BRU oneway and BRU-THF oneway, and make that you have enough time between the connections for in case one flight is delayed.

SN do not have best buy oneway tickets anymore between FCO and BRU on January 1/2, so take Virgin Express on this leg. But... VEX only have evening flights on those days.

Is it possible to fly on January 3? In that case, you can take TV703 9:45-12:00 for €96 inclusive tax, spend some time in BRU, and leave on the SN2585 at 15:20 to THF, landing at 16:40, for €109 inclusive tax.

By the way - you could also try LX: they also fly into THF...

LX moved their BSL-THF flights to TXL on 31 October 04. So unless they reversed that decision (like SN and C9 did) they are not in THF any more  Sad

I would suggest you get to ZRH somehow, take the train from there to Friedrichshafen (the Lake Constance area is also the nicest corner of Germany in my opinion...). From FDH you can get a LCC style oneway ticket on Intersky's Dash 8 into THF.

Cheers,
Tom

Hi Posti,

if you could amend you shedule you might try Germania Express. 01.Jan. and 02. Jan might be difficult anyway, as it's peak season. Try WWW.GEXX.DE .
They have a afternoon flight on 04.Jan. FCO-MUC-THF at € 122.- oneway. Flights are operated with Fokker 100's. Ex American planes as far as I know.

Thanks for all the info, you gentlemen are quite helpful. I've got some good ideas and today I'll be checking a lot of websites to see what I can find.

HAJ_OW,
unfortunately my schedule is rather fixed, I'm leaving Rome right after New Years, then I have until the 6th to visit Berlin and Praha. I'm leaving PRG early Jan 6, so I'd like to arrive by the 4th to spend some time there.

Maybe you can look anyway at tehir website (www.gexx.de), they serve all the three Berlin airports. They haye a rather unusual pricing since ALL the seats have the same price at any time and without respect when you book, so they are packed for 1st and 2nd of january. Welcome to Berlin!

I looked into the TV flight from FCO-BRU and it arrives after the last SN flight to THF departs, so I don't think that is going to work.

There is another option that I thought I would ask everyone about. For 110E FR flies CIA-CRL, which I know is about an hour south of BRU. The FR flight arrives at 1200, then for 83E SN departs at 19:25. I was wondering if you think this is a viable option. Is there an easy way to get from CRL to Brussels? Would I waste a bunch of money on transportation in Belgium? What do you think?

Also, I looked on the ST website and it seems like all of their flights are booked on the 1st and 2nd. I picked at bad time to travel.

Charleroi to BRU takes between 1.5 and 2 hours by train. One has to change trains once or twice. Don´t know about prices, shouldn´t be too much.

Check out http://reiseauskunft.bahn.de/bin/query.exe/en for schedules; you should be fine.

There is a direct bus service from Charleroi to Brussels Midi railway station from where you can get frequent trains to the airport. The shuttle bus between Charleroi and Brussels costs 10 EUR from what I know, the train out to Zaventem should cost you something between 2 and 3 EUR I think.
