ATA is for sale. America West was going to offer to buy the whole thing, but couldn't get a deal they liked.
Others, Airtran and Southwest, are bidding for some parts of ATA, and others are bidding for other parts - such as Wexford and one other company - for Chicago Express.
If Airtran deal wins, then ATA will move to IND
, and only fly charters out of MDW
. They wouldn't have much need for Chicago Express.
If Southwest wins, then a smaller ATA will stay at MDW
- but possibly without Chicago Express.
The point is to get as much money for ATA's creditors as possible. ATA will have to work with what is left.
At this point it is out of ATA's control.
