Any Updates On B6? FLL-ISP/EWR?

Mon Dec 13, 2004 9:44 am

Are there any updates about the FLL-ISP/EWR that B6 was going to start in 2005? I remember there was 1 or 2 threads, but no one knew the real deal.

More fiction than fact, and interesting but unlikely reading material if anything else. Newark is quite full right now, and while Islip has the space, I think they'd be wanting Newark first.

I think they are concentrating on Chicago right now and trying to work some deals out.

Would they dare enter CO country? That's one of the most single airline controlled airport's in the US. Didn't DL force B6 out of ATL, even if B6 did start up service there it might wind up being exactly what happened in ATL.

back to ATL again, eh! Might I remind you that B6 just chose the wrong cities out of ATL. If they had chosen FLL and JFK it would have been much more sucessful. And I'm not saying it becasue when I fly it usually involves ATL, FLL, and NYC!

However, at the time LGB was their target and their situation was different. I am pretty sure that they would try FLL and JFK if they could get the opportunity again in the future...those would be the 2 I would guess on if they went into ATL tomorrow.

I remember when B6 came into ATL. It looked real funny on their route map! But I remember seeing a little bus stop ad for jetBlue on Roswell Road in Cobb County (near Johnson Ferry for those familiar with the area). Neeleman also came to town a few times and they tried to get a lot of publicity in local papers by giving tickets to the needy etc... I was one of the few people in Atlanta who had even heard of jetBlue and if they had flown where I needed to go I would have flown them. (I actually credit myself with them coming to ATL...I baught 2 shirts from them online in 2001...prior to their arrival in ATL.)

One minor problem about B6 entering EWR - a total lack of space.

Terminal A is filled with all of the US domestic carriers except for CO, although CO has 6 gates in A for flights to ORD, DFW, and ATL that they grabbed just to keep new airlines out. TZ and AS share one gate already - there is simply no space there.

Terminal B has all of the international airlines plus NW and DL - there is no room for anyone else there - the gates are highly utilized as it is.

Terminal C is CO's personalized terminal - everything is customed for them (gate agent desks, checkin counters, even the access roadways are split for international and domestic flights on CO). CO wouldn't give up space in C in a million years - especially not to B6 or any other LCC.

you must remember though, that B6 would probably operate a couple of flights per day...I'm sure they could find a gate to share...

I was thinking about this overnight and came to the conclusion that it could easily work for JetBlue.

They could for a very good price acquire newer 300-600s and give them the JetBlue makeover. They would carry 280 passengers across the pond for very little money accounting for the planes efficiency and the low acquisition cost. If people like the 320 they would equally like the 300. There is absolutely no reason for 330s or 340s across the Atlantic from the east coast.

If they really wanted to they could effectively
