John F. Kennedy Airport Spotting Areas?

Tue Dec 14, 2004 11:23 am

Hi, I just want to know if there are good spotting areas around JFK to take some pictures and just watch airplanes? I want to go there in a couple of weeks. Just need some information, thanks...

There are a number of good spots - check out Art Brett's outstanding web site:

http://www.anniebees.com/Photos/AviationWelcome.htm

Follow the link "Spotting locations with maps, samples and directions". Art has about 4,000 photos here on a.net. Also drop me a line via my profile - I sort of grew up around JFK and still get there from time to time.

John F Kennedy Airport Spotting Areas?

Wed Dec 15, 2004 3:32 am

My only advice is becareful and carry some form of ID. I have been stoped a few times and Police and Security were notified. They once even searched my camera and my car. I like to carry my Drivers license, Security Officers license, and my AOPA card, and I tend to take my car which has the GA Secure sticker on it from the AOPA. This tends to help, at least they know I care about airport safety. Good Luck

Airplanes are only as good as the people who fly&fix them.

I can't add anything to Art Bretts awesome site, but Starbucks on Crossbay Blvd. in Howard Beach is a good place to enjoy rwy 31L departures, and 13L and R arrivals, in the warmer months there is an open deck on the second floor,in the winter you are stuck inside ,but its still a good place to spot.
the rumble of round engines is like music to me,likewise the thunder of thr JT8D
