Frontier A319's W/ Flag Missing

Wed Dec 15, 2004 4:17 am

I've noticed that the 2 newest A319's (N934FR and N935FR)
do not have the American flag above the registration.

appears these are the only 2 A319's w/out the flag

Any reason why ?

I don't know. But I say leave the flag off. It doesn't add anything to the scheme.
I don't understand everything I don't know about this.

I'm guessing it isn't put on when its being produced in Europe, and gets put on sometime after entering service. If you look at the other pictures of FR A319's prior to delivery, none of them have the flag....

You're right. None of Frontier's aircraft photographed at Hamburg will have the flag on them.

Until Frontier signs the delivery agreement the plane doesn't belong to them, and I doubt the ferry crew would carry the decals in their luggage or stick 'em on.

Even when the aircraft gets here there is stuff to do, and then it has to go to Florida for the DirecTV installation - and they don't do the decals either.

It may go straight into service after that, so there can be a time lag before it gets the flag.

cheers

But is there any real reason for this? Because there are planes in the database that do, in fact, already have their respective country's flag on them, even though they're still in Hamburg...

The ones I've found:

Ok, not the country's, but the EU Flag:

So: why does Frontier not have the flag on the plane at Hamburg?

Probably because they don't take them with them for ferry. F9 does carry the flag on the planes though, as all flag carriers (F9 is one) have to.

I believe the answer is.......................F9 does not fly out of the US regularly.......only to Mexico during the cold months such as now.

This is one thing I always wondered about Ozark. None of the pictures I have of Ozark planes or have seen don't have one either.

Just a guess...................sounds good doesn't it?

The flags are not put on in HAM for one reason. It costs too much!! Airbus would require that the external livery drawings be modified to include the flag, and Frontier would be required to pay for the change paperwork (usually a one time $3000 filing fee, plus additional fees for the printing/materials/labor on a per aircraft basis!). The flags are put on when we have a bit of time that the aircraft will be on the ground, and the temperature is agreeable, or we have hangar space available

I think either (a) Frontier management is expressing its displeasure at the results of the election, or (b) it's a subversive plot by the French.  Laugh out loud
