Wed Dec 15, 2004 8:15 am

14 December, 2004, JOHANNESBURG: An implementation timetable of immediate benefits for South African Airways (SAA) customers will be released early in the new year allowing them to start enjoying the results of the Star Alliance.
So says SAA’s CEO, Mr Khaya Ngqula who yesterday signed an MOU in the presence of all CEO’s of the Star Alliance gathered in Bangkok.

SAA took a decision early this year to join the “alliance for the earth” - the biggest alliance for airlines in the world.

At this meeting of CEO’s, his first since being appointed as the head of SAA, Ngqula spoke passionately about the role of SAA in bringing the world to Africa and Africa to the world, using what he termed a very expansive network covering practically every destination in the world.

Some of the areas of benefits for customers that will be brought on stream during the course of SAA’s integration into Star Alliance are the following:

Synchronisation of loyalty programmes after whose full implementation will enable customers to redeem their Voyager Miles over 15 airlines

Implementation of codeshare agreements with various Star Alliance members. This will increase seamless travel and dramatically reduce add-on fees for connections around the world

Access to lounges of various partner airlines as various bi-lateral agreements are concluded with these

Commenting after this meeting, Ngqula said, “We fully commit to the integration into the Star Alliance within a year to ensure that our customers derive maximum benefits.

“There is no question that the revenue model offered by Star Alliance is what SAA needs for a successful turnaround,” he concluded.
