EasyJet Baggage Allowance

Wed Dec 15, 2004 11:59 am

This week I am flying NCL-BCN with U2. I am going back home after spending some months studying in the UK so I have quite a lot of stuff to take home. As with U2 there is no weight restriction on hand baggage I am trying to put all my books and heavy items in my small suitcase (55x40x20cm), which will probably weight 20-30kg, and the lighter ones in the suitcase I will check in, which anyway will weight 30-35kg. Besides I will bring my laptop and some bags with christmas presents. According to their policy ( I shouldn't have any problem with my baggage, but I was wondering what would happen if the plane was fully booked and everybody had as much baggage as I will (around 70kg)? Would the plane be able to fly? Or would it be too heavy? If it was overloaded, what would they do? Would they transfer some pax to other flights? If so, who would like to change his flight and arrive later?
At the bus station, buses stop. At the train station, trains stop. At my desk, I have a work station.

I presume you know that you'll be paying excess baggage fees for your checked luggage.

I wouldn't advertise your 30kg piece of hand luggage, there are reports of people with 12-15kg pieces asked to check them in by check-in agents.

This may not be as simple as you expect.

As Teahan has already pointed out you will be charged excess baggage fees for your hold baggage.

In addition to this easyJet regulations state "Each passenger is usually permitted one standard piece of hand baggage to a volume limit of 55x40x20cm. There is no weight restriction, within reasonable limits - i.e. a passenger must be able to place the piece of luggage safely in the overhead storage bins without assistance"

You've said that you intend to take several pieces of hand baggage (Your books, your laptop, and some bags with Xmas presents) - so it's quite possible you won't be allowed to take all of this into the cabin.

If you do get pulled up on your hand baggage and you have to check it in as hold baggage then you could be in excess of easyJet's maximum limits (50kg) so you may be expected to leave some stuff behind.

Furthermore, if your planned piece of hold baggage is greater than 32kg, then it will be in excess of easyJet's hold baggage weight limit.

I don't like signatures...

It works like this most of the time:

If you pay fees, then your luggage is going on the plane. That is the point of paying the overweight fee.

On my airline, however, we dont charge for excess baggage because we do not guarentee that it will go on the flight.

Hope that maybe gets rid of smoe worry. This is all theoretical of couse.
