Airline Also Adding Third Daily Flight Between Milwaukee and Washington

EAGAN, Minn., Dec. 15 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Northwest Airlines (Nasdaq: NWAC - News) today announced that it will add new nonstop seasonal service from both Milwaukee and Indianapolis to Cancun, Mexico, from Feb. 19 through April 30, 2005, pending final approval from the Mexican government.

The new Milwaukee flight will be the only nonstop service operated by a scheduled airline to Cancun.

The airline also announced that it will add a third daily frequency between Milwaukee and Washington, beginning March 1, 2005.

"Northwest's new nonstop service to Cancun will provide Southeastern Wisconsin travelers with all of the conveniences and comforts that only a scheduled airline can offer," said Jim Cron, vice president of domestic pricing and yield management. "In addition, our new mid-day service between Milwaukee and Washington will provide business travelers with more nonstop options."

The new Cancun flights from both Indianapolis and Milwaukee will be operated on Saturdays with Northwest's modern Airbus A320 aircraft, with 16 seats in first class and 132 seats in coach class. Flight 1923 will depart Indianapolis at 2:05 p.m., and arrive Cancun at 5:25 p.m. On the return, flight 1922 will depart Cancun at 6:20 p.m., and arrive in Indianapolis at 9:32 p.m. From Milwaukee, flight 1939 will depart at 2:20 p.m., arriving in Cancun at 6:10 p.m. On the return, flight 1938 will depart Cancun at 7:10 p.m. and arrive in Milwaukee at 11:05 p.m.

"Our new flight to Cancun provides our many loyal customers in Indianapolis with new opportunities to earn and redeem WorldPerks frequent flyer miles and use Northwest's fast self-service check-in options when flying to one of their favorite vacation cities," said Fay Beauchine, vice president of sales and customer care. "Whether flying for business or pleasure, Northwest has the experience, comprehensive domestic and international network, and the know-how to meet the needs of travelers in the Heartland of America."

Northwest's third flight from Milwaukee to Washington will be operated daily by Northwest Airlink partner Pinnacle Airlines with Canadair Regional Jets (CRJs) seating up to 50 passengers.

Northwest has been steadily adding nonstop flights from Indianapolis and Milwaukee to popular business and leisure destinations throughout North America. Cancun will be Northwest's 21st nonstop destination and first international service from Indianapolis, and 17th nonstop destination and second international flight from Milwaukee.

In 2004 alone, Northwest announced new nonstop service from Milwaukee to Baltimore, Ft. Myers, Fla., Kansas City, Mo., Pittsburgh, St. Louis and Toronto, and announced additional frequencies to Boston, New York and Washington. When the third Washington flight begins in March, Northwest will offer up to 37 flights a day from Milwaukee, more than any global network airline serving General Mitchell International Airport.

Also in 2004, Northwest announced new nonstop service from Indianapolis to Boston, Dallas/Ft. Worth, Ft. Lauderdale, Fla., Ft. Myers, Hartford, Conn., Kansas City, Las Vegas, Los Angeles, New York, Orlando, Fla., Philadelphia, Phoenix, Raleigh/Durham, N.C., Sarasota, Fla., Tampa, Fla., Washington and West Palm Beach, Fla. Northwest will offer up to 49 flights a day from Indianapolis, more flights to more nonstop destinations than any other airline serving Indianapolis International Airport.

Customers currently holding tickets on connecting itineraries to Cancun can change to Northwest's new nonstop service without paying an administrative change fee by contacting Northwest or their travel agent by January 15, 2005.

So, I'm assuming of course that NW's focus city in MKE is doing quite well?

Good for MKE. We'll have to see how well this new flt helps cheeseheads escape those Wisconsin winters  Smile

Again, NW being proactive and taking people where they want to go, when they want to go. More and more now we are seeing, especially NW add a ton of seasonal and/or Saturday/weekend only service to key leisure destinations. They are actively changing the frequency, opposed to operating certain flights every day of the week.

That CUN airport on Saturdays is a mad-house..I am going in on Feb5th MCI_CUN but it arrives in Evening so not so bad..but all these Sat. only frequencies jam up the place...but we are seeing an increase in scheduled carriers going there as opposed to the huge charter biz that has existed up till now.

Good for MKE and IND..ENjoy your new service.. CUN is my favorite warm weather getaway.. I can just imagine that beautiful water right now!

Too bad about the equipment choice (320) for these new 1x weekly flights; I thought NW had "discovered" that their customers in the IND market in particular prefer RJs over real jets  Big grin  Big grin  Big grin

Wow! NW, is really doing well in MKE it appears. By the way this is the third seperate time NW has had a focus city in MKE on three different occasions- prior to the Republic buyout, from 1988-1990 and now again starting in 2003.

It seems like NW is doing real well out of MKE, but I'm also curious how this is affecting their loads to DTW, MSP, and MEM, considering I don't believe they have decreased frequency much (if at all) on those routes...someone correct me if I'm wrong. I do think, however, that they are very wise to start picking more destinations not current served by YX, as a decent amount of people in WI are ridiculously loyal to YX given that they are home grown.

Also, when did they add service to YYZ from MKE? I never remember seeing that before.
